Book launch ceremony and meeting with US-Vietnamese veteran pilots at Viet Flight School, Ho Chi Minh City, April 17, 2025

The book is an important historical work, recreating the feats and losses, glory and silence, like a beautiful and tragic epic of a golden generation of Vietnamese air force pilots. The author spent nearly ten years meeting each character, recording their narratives. In addition, the author also visited the units and localities where the characters were stationed, met, listened to, and recorded stories and memories from the characters, their comrades, and teammates of the same time...

Opening the pages of the book, readers will see behind the documentary photos not only stories about historical battles with heroic fighter pilots such as: Hero Nguyen Van Bay, Tran Hanh, Vu Ngoc Dinh, Le Hai, Nguyen Duc Soat..., but also see the quiet faces of the sky. They are night pilots, bombers, helicopter pilots, transport pilots such as: Colonel, Mi-24 pilot Do Thanh Hung; Colonel, AN-2 pilot Nguyen Ngoc Huan; Colonel, UH-1 pilot Ho Duy Hung; training instructors at the Air Force Officer School - teachers of teachers in the lecture hall in the clouds, such as Colonel, pilot Nguyen Phuong Anh; Colonel, pilot Nguyen Thang Thang; Colonel, pilot Nguyen Van Khuya...; or reconnaissance and test pilots such as pilot Nguyen Van Khai, pilot Nguyen Van Suu...

They - the Vietnamese fighter pilots - have gone through the confrontation with the US Air Force and protected the Southwest border as well as in peacetime training today. The stories and confessions of the pilots in the book not only depict the intelligence and bravery of the generation of fighter pilots, but also highlight their profound human qualities.

Not only in wartime, through the images of young pilots, the “sky warriors” today, we see in them “the love for the sky that never changes” has been fully inherited. We recognize the pride – the strength of the silver swallow on the traditional blue lapel…

The book launch is an opportunity for domestic and foreign readers to access a valuable photo book, look back at the heroic history of the nation, and pay tribute to those who have devoted their youth to the independence and freedom of the country.

The Vietnamese edition was first published in 2022 by the Writers' Association Publishing House. The English edition was edited by former pilot Nguyen Nam Lien and published by The Gioi Publishing House in 2025.
