The author spent nearly ten years meeting each character, recording their narratives. They - the Vietnamese fighter pilots - have gone through the confrontation with the US Air Force and protected the Southwest border as well as in peacetime training today. The Vietnamese edition was first published in 2022 by the Writers' Association Publishing House. The English edition was edited by former pilot Nguyen Nam Lien and published by The Gioi Publishing House in 2025.
