To prepare to sign the protocol to officially export frozen coconut and durian to China, localities need to review growing areas and processing facilities.
This request was sent by the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) to localities to review growing areas and packaging facilities for fresh coconuts and frozen durians exported to China. This is to speed up the process of opening the market for two types of agricultural products to enter the billion-people market.
Therefore, the Department requests localities to guide growers to register growing areas and packaging facilities for fresh coconut and frozen durian for export.
Fresh coconut and frozen durian packaging facilities need to be inspected and assessed for plant quarantine, food safety, packaging and traceability requirements of the importing country.
In addition, durian packaging facilities must meet the requirements for freezing storage capacity, reaching -35 degrees Celsius for 1 hour (ton/day) and cold storage -18 degrees Celsius.
Fresh coconut growing areas must apply management measures for 16 harmful organisms required by China, such as coconut beetles, whiteflies, mealybugs, red palm weevils...
Previously, fresh durian fruit was officially exported to China from July 7. Thanks to that, the export turnover of this fruit last year increased to a record, nearly 2022 billion USD.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that licensed frozen durian will help increase the export value of durian products by 30% each year.
Similarly, coconuts, if exported officially, will bring in 500-600 million USD, helping the turnover of this fruit to increase dramatically.
