According to exclusive information from Cadena SER, Vinicius Junior has agreed to extend his contract with Real Madrid, despite lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian star, who will turn 25 in July, is expected to become the team's highest-paid player with a salary of 20-25 million euros per year.
An official announcement regarding this agreement is expected to be made at the end of the 2024/25 season, when "Los Blancos" have completed their campaign in all competitions.
In stark contrast to the enthusiastic atmosphere from the fans, Julio Pulido – a well-known commentator for SER – caused a stir by publicly opposing this decision by the Real Madrid management.
"Vinicius' decision to stay was the right one; leaving at this age to go to Saudi Arabia would have been a mistake," Pulido analyzed. "However, I think Real Madrid made a mistake in entrusting the club's future to Vinicius."
According to Pulido, Vinicius's recent form and attitude no longer live up to his role as a key player: "The current Vinicius, with his outbursts of anger and unpleasant attitude, no longer plays the important role he once did."
Pulido didn't hesitate to assert that the future of "Los Blancos" should be built around Kylian Mbappe, rather than Vinicius.
"This isn't just my opinion," Pulido emphasized. "More and more Real Madrid fans are getting tired of Vinicius and the fuss surrounding him."
Vinicius's attitude is what's really worrying for Real Madrid. |
Regarding leadership in the dressing room, Talavera – another expert from Cadena SER – commented: "Vinicius will have the highest salary in the team, which means he will become the new leader of Real Madrid. The team has had leadership problems, and extending his contract will bring Vinicius closer to this role."
Carreño from Cadena SER provided further details on the current and future salaries of the "power trio" at Bernabeu: "Mbappé, Vinicius, and Bellingham currently have a net salary of 15 million euros per year. However, after a contract extension, Vinicius will receive a salary of up to 20-25 million euros. Although Mbappé received a larger signing bonus upon arriving in Madrid, Vinicius will be the highest-paid player in the team."
Pulido's statement sparked intense controversy among Real Madrid fans. While many defended Vinicius and his contributions to the team – particularly his decisive goal in the Champions League finals – a significant number agreed with Pulido's views on the Brazilian star's sometimes controversial attitude and playing style.
Will Vinicius prove his worth and justify his upcoming huge salary? Or was Pulido right in suggesting Real Madrid should build their future around Mbappé? The answer will gradually become clear in the new season.
