After 28 days at sea, the fishing boat of fisherman Pham Cu Anh from Dinh Tan village, Binh Chau commune (Binh Son district) docked at Sa Ky fishing port, Binh Chau commune, much to the joy of the fishermen. The boat caught 7 tons of fish, mainly large flying fish. With a selling price of 70-80 thousand VND/kg, after deducting crew expenses, each person earned about 8 million VND.
"Although the selling price is lower than in previous fishing trips, the catch is good. Having spent many Tet holidays at sea, this year we all want to go home to be with our families. We'll rest and then prepare our supplies before heading back out to sea after Tet," Mr. Anh said excitedly.
After 20 days at sea in the Hoang Sa fishing grounds, the fishing vessel QNg 90744 TS of fisherman Bui Hoa from Dinh Tan village, Binh Chau commune, finally docked at Sa Ky port, much to the delight of the fishermen. The vessel caught 4 tons of various fish, and after deducting expenses, each crew member earned approximately 10 million VND. The fishing vessel QNg 90316 TS of fisherman Do Chi Binh was also full of fish. Twelve crew members were engaged in diving activities in the Hoang Sa area.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions during the year-end fishing trip, the boat caught a large haul of valuable fish and squid such as red grouper, snapper, barramundi, and squid. This fishing vessel caught over 7 tons of various fish, earning approximately 600 million VND. After deducting expenses, each crew member earned about 30 million VND.
“After days at sea, there’s no greater happiness than celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) with family and loved ones. We’re taking advantage of the time to go home to shop for Tet and celebrate the New Year with our families. On the 10th day of the first lunar month, the ship will set sail again,” Mr. Binh shared.

Having just docked to sell their catch to traders, the fishing boat QNg 95693 TS, captained by Mr. Tran Van Trung from Dinh Tan village, Binh Chau commune, turned around and headed back out to sea. For fishermen, a fishing trip during Tet (Lunar New Year) is a special one. Besides essential supplies, they also bring fresh flowers, banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), banh tet (another type of Vietnamese rice cake), candied fruits, wine, beer, etc., to offer at midnight on New Year's Eve and welcome the new year at sea.
“During Tet (Lunar New Year), everyone wants to reunite and spend time with their families, but this year the fishing industry is facing difficulties, so we decided to fish throughout the holiday. At this time, there are fewer fishing boats, making it easier to catch many valuable seafood stocks, and with the high selling prices, a fishing trip through Tet will bring in a high income,” Mr. Trung confided.

According to the Provincial Fisheries Port Management Board, from the 20th day of the 12th lunar month until now, 1,180 fishing vessels have docked at ports throughout the province to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year). Currently, 62 fishing vessels, with 378 fishermen, are staying at sea throughout Tet, including 12 vessels from Binh Son district, 4 vessels from Quang Ngai city, and 46 vessels from Duc Pho town.
According to Nguyen Van Muoi, head of the Provincial Fisheries Department, the department has assigned officials to be on duty 24/7 to monitor the vessel tracking system to track and supervise fishing activities, providing timely support in case of emergencies. Simultaneously, they are working to prevent violations of regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, ensuring that no vessels violate foreign waters.
