This was perhaps the most rewarding and memorable trip for the young soldiers of Regiment 10 and the numerous teachers and students of Ho Chi Minh City.
Ms. Pham Tran Bich Van, Vice Principal of Le Thanh Tong Primary, Secondary, and High School, shared: “I have read and watched films about the Special Forces of the Rung Sac Forest, but visiting the Rung Sac War Zone allowed me to vividly imagine the hardships and dangers of the ancient war zone in the sacred forest, with crocodiles lurking and bombs and bullets devastating the area… Yet, the soldiers persevered, achieving many glorious victories. These are invaluable historical documents that are very helpful to us teachers and students.”

Through images, documentary films, and accounts from historical witnesses, the lives of these flesh-and-blood individuals who accomplished seemingly impossible feats have been recreated. These include Colonel Lê Bá Ước, a Hero of the Armed Forces, former Commander and Political Commissar of Regiment 10, the "soul" of the Rừng Sác Special Forces, a brilliant and strategic commander who organized a series of legendary battles that struck fear into the enemy. His name is associated with numerous victories: burning down the Nhà Bè fuel depot, destroying the Thành Tuy Hạ bomb depot, shelling the Independence Palace, and sinking the large transport ship Baton Rouge Victory on the Lòng Tàu River....
For example, Hoàng Dương Chương, the "Crocodile Slayer," with his ingenious idea of attaching explosives to the wings of live ducks and dropping them into the river to kill crocodiles, thus minimizing casualties among the soldiers; soldier Mười Móc, despite being wounded, bravely fought a ferocious crocodile with a sharp knife, forcing it to flee; and female medic Nguyễn Kim Mến (Tư Mến) who devoted all her love and effort to caring for the wounded and heroically sacrificed herself for her comrades... These true stories ignited the flame of patriotism, indomitable spirit, and spread the revolutionary heroism of the Vietnamese people.
According to historical records, from 1966 to 1975, the Rừng Sác Special Forces participated in 595 battles, large and small; eliminated 6,200 American and puppet soldiers; sank or destroyed 356 military ships and boats; sank 133 transport ships weighing from 8,000 to 13,000 tons; destroyed 145 other transport ships; shot down 29 helicopters; destroyed an artillery position, many bridges, and enemy command posts... With these exceptionally outstanding achievements, Unit 10 was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and the State.
Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Van Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Regiment 10, emphasized: “Inheriting glorious victories and upholding the tradition of ‘exceptionally elite, incredibly brave, resourceful and daring, striking decisively and winning big,’ generations of officers and soldiers of the Regiment have always been united, overcoming all difficulties, excellently fulfilling assigned tasks, achieving many outstanding victories, contributing to the glorious heroic tradition of the armed forces of Ho Chi Minh City.”
