"I've transferred the money, Uncle Nam. Please check if it's arrived," Mrs. Pham Thi Ngoc, residing in Ward 26, Binh Thanh Ward (Ho Chi Minh City), informed Mr. Nam, the fruit vendor, after she transferred 150,000 VND for the fruit she bought from him. For over six months now, after attending a digital transformation class organized by the ward's youth at a coffee shop, Mrs. Ngoc has become more confident using a mobile banking app.
Not only Mrs. Ngoc, but many elderly people in the neighborhood also feel confident using smartphones to scan QR codes, pay for purchases through banking apps, and book medical appointments online after participating in digital transformation classes. “Before, I always used smartphones, but rarely used apps, especially banking apps, because I was afraid that if I didn't understand them, I could easily lose personal information. But after being guided by the youth union members, I feel more secure. I gradually got used to using them and find them very convenient for my life,” Mrs. Ngoc expressed.
According to Ms. Ngoc, thanks to the "Digital Literacy Movement" organized and implemented by the ward's youth union members at various locations, from cafes to alleyways, to guide people at home, she and many other elderly people have understood and had the opportunity to master technology.
Pointing to the wall in alley 170 Bui Dinh Tuy, Ms. Ngoc couldn't hide her joy. "That painting was also done by the children to raise awareness among residents about fire prevention and safety in the neighborhood." According to Nguyen Hoang Dan Khanh, Secretary of the Binh Thanh Ward Youth Union, the first paintings created in the alleys have become a highlight and attract the attention of residents, children, and young people in the neighborhood whenever they pass by.
"From cute images to gentle, relatable messages painted on each wall, we believe this will contribute to creating fire safety habits and awareness among the people," Dan Khanh shared.
During the recent election day, many people were impressed to see young people in blue shirts going door-to-door to transport the elderly and disabled to the polling stations. Their shirts were soaked with sweat, but smiles always graced their faces, because they had contributed to the success of this national event.
According to Ms. Hoang Mai Quynh Hoa, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Thanh Ward, during the implementation of the two-tiered local government model, the ward's youth union members demonstrated a pioneering spirit, not afraid of difficulties or hardships, daring to think and act, daring to take responsibility, daring to innovate, daring to undertake challenging tasks, and taking the lead in assuming their responsibilities.
That spirit was also strongly spread throughout the community festival and in every small alleyway. "With the work they have accomplished in the past, the youth union members of the ward have created a positive impression and built trust in the hearts of the people in the area," commented Ms. Hoang Mai Quynh Hoa.
