According to Android Authority , the latest report from Counterpoint Research shows that Huawei has surpassed Samsung to become the leading foldable smartphone manufacturer in Q1 2024. The Chinese company holds 35% of the global foldable smartphone market share, compared to Samsung's 23%. In the same period last year, Huawei only held 14%, while Samsung had 58%.
Huawei's tireless efforts in the foldable smartphone market have yielded fruitful results.
Huawei's market share surged thanks to its transition to 5G on its foldable smartphones, with the Mate X5 being one of the best-selling products in China for three consecutive quarters, and the Pocket 2 also being one of the company's most popular devices in the first quarter. Huawei has relied heavily on its home market since the US ban in 2019, so it's no surprise that China accounts for a large portion of Huawei's foldable smartphone sales.
HONOR and Motorola also saw a surge in growth compared to last year, with increases of 460% and 1,473% respectively, and a combined market share of 42%. In fact, these two brands ranked 3rd and 4th respectively.
Counterpoint Research also noted that this is the first time since 2021 that the budget foldable smartphone segment has accounted for the majority of global foldable smartphone sales (55%). Foldable devices from H ONOR and Xiaomi, along with the Galaxy Z Flip6 that Samsung is expected to launch later this year, promise to further boost the market share of this product line.
