This move comes after Samsung demoted the S8 to its quarterly device update list a year ago. Despite Samsung's robust device support policy, the Galaxy S8 has gradually become outdated.
The Galaxy S8 is now four years old, but it still made a great impression on the day it launched. The S8 debuted with a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, a 12MP rear camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. It ran Android 7.0 Nougat at launch, but updates later upgraded it to Android 9.0 Pie.
If you own a Galaxy S8 Active, you will continue to receive quarterly updates. Galaxy S8 Lite users will also continue to receive security updates every two years.
The final security update available for the Galaxy S8 includes the April 2021 security patch.
