In the first four months of 2024, Vietnam imported over $115 billion worth of goods, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, 89% of imported goods in the first four months were machinery, equipment, and raw materials.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to closely monitor market developments and policy changes of partners to propose appropriate solutions, developing diverse traditional and new export markets. It will promptly inform industry associations about developments in export markets so that businesses can adjust their production plans accordingly and orient themselves towards seeking orders from various markets. It will continue to diversify import markets, especially those importing raw materials and components for production, avoiding over-reliance on a single market; and gradually improve the trade balance with markets where Vietnam has a trade deficit.
