Will a '100% Vietnamese-made ChatGPT' be available for end users soon?

ANTD.VN - In 2023, the ChatGPT phenomenon shook the global technology market, sparking a race to conquer generative AI among countries and major technology companies. Vietnam was not outside this trend, with a series of generative AI products being launched.

The model behind generative AI

Generative AI is considered the next generation of artificial intelligence, focusing on generating new content, solutions, or ideas, rather than simply analyzing data as is currently the case. The fundamental model behind the operation of generative AI is called the Large Language Model (LLM).

This is a type of language model trained using deep learning techniques on massive text datasets. These models are capable of generating text similar to that of humans and performing many natural language processing tasks. Some popular models include GPT-4 developed by OpenAI, and Bard by Google.

Therefore, to fully master generative AI from its deepest core, businesses need to build and train large-scale language models from the very beginning. Specifically, at the foundational stage, the model can be trained on large datasets to memorize language rules and structures. Through the training phase, the model begins to deduce relationships between different words, phrases, sentences, and concepts, and then continues to be refined through multiple steps to create the foundation for developing practical generative AI applications.

The practical application of AI generation in Vietnam.

Currently, AI research and development units worldwide typically provide products in several forms, such as open source, closed source, or closed source but available via APIs and applications for end users.

With open-source code like LLaMA (Meta), the model is publicly available so that developers/communities can download, use, modify, and customize it. Conversely, closed-source code is often not publicly available or is provided via APIs, such as GPT-4 (OpenAI), allowing businesses to integrate the core technology into their own products. Applications like ChatGPT or Bard are finished products that end users can easily access, install, and use for specific tasks.

In Vietnam, several companies have launched AI generation models in various formats, such as theFPT GenAI platform for businesses, the open-source PhoGPT model, and more recently, Zalo AI LLM. To date, however, no 100% "made in Vietnam" application for end users has been officially launched in the Vietnamese market.

Nhiều khả năng Việt Nam sẽ có một phiên bản tương tự ChatGPT dành cho người dùng cuối, tập trung vào tri thức Việt
It is highly likely that Vietnam will have a similar version of ChatGPT for end users, focusing on Vietnamese knowledge.

According to multiple sources, VinBigdata, a subsidiary of Vingroup , will soon launch the ViGPT application – “Vietnamese version of ChatGPT” – for end users and businesses, focusing on specific Vietnamese content such as culture, history, geography, and famous figures. Information shared indicates that users can access a limited trial version of ViGPT in Vietnamese via a web interface, similar to ChatGPT. It is likely that the official product launch will take place on December 27, 2023.

Một số đơn vị đã cho ra mắt mô hình AI tạo sinh ở các định dạng khác nhau nhưng hiện nay chưa có ứng dụng 100% “made in Vietnam" cho người dùng cuối
Several companies have launched AI generation models in various formats, but currently there are no 100% "made in Vietnam" applications for end users.

The Ministry of Information and Communications recently issued a plan aiming for Vietnam to have at least one Vietnamese-language Learning Resource Management (LRM) technology platform by 2025. The plan emphasizes that researching, developing, and implementing Vietnamese-language LLM is a crucial, necessary, and meaningful task. Vietnamese-language LLM utilizes Vietnam's pre-filtered knowledge and training data at a low cost for individuals, businesses, and organizations in Vietnam to develop new applications.

Vietnam is in the early stages of conquering generative AI, and the launch of Vietnamese-developed applications similar to ChatGPT is a positive sign, demonstrating the efforts of domestic technology companies to eliminate dependence on international products, ensure the accuracy of information, and minimize the outflow of data to foreign markets.
