At a conference held in Seoul (South Korea), researcher Heo Moo-yeol from Omdia said that Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18e and standard iPhone 18 in early 2027.
Next, models launched in late 2027 include the iPhone 20 Pro, iPhone 20 Pro Max, next-generation iPhone Air, and second-generation foldable iPhone.
If the information is correct, Apple will skip the iPhone 19 line and go straight to the iPhone 20. This also marks Apple's new strategy of launching iPhones twice a year.
According to MacRumors , Apple's move may be to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone launch. Previously in 2017, the company also skipped the iPhone 9, only introducing the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X (Roman numeral for 10).
In May, sources from The Information and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo both said that Apple was considering shifting its iPhone launch schedule to twice a year to maintain sales.
“The iPhone 18 lineup will include upgraded versions of the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone Pro, Pro Max, and a foldable model. By spring 2027, Apple plans to launch the standard iPhone 18 and the successor to the iPhone 16e,” said Wayne Ma of The Information .
Apple’s new strategy could be implemented as early as next year. By introducing iPhones in the first and second half of the year, Apple could avoid the sales model that is heavily concentrated in the fourth quarter, while taking advantage of periods that typically record weak demand. This year’s iPhone 17 is expected to be the last generation to launch under the old model.
Changing the release schedule could also make it easier for Apple to manage new iPhone models. The arrival of the foldable iPhone means the 2026 iPhone will have six devices instead of five. So rolling out in batches could cut down on the number of workers that need to be hired at once.
The iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are based on an older, less complex design and are expected to undergo trial production in India, a new solution from Apple to reduce the risks of manufacturing in China.

According to a source shared by ETNews in August, Apple also informed some suppliers that the iPhone 18 was not part of the launch in late 2026. Instead, the company only launched the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in September.
If the rumors are correct, Apple will position the iPhone 18 as a low-cost model similar to the iPhone 18e. The company launched the iPhone 16e in February this year to replace the iPhone SE.
With the iPhone 18 gone, Omdia predicts a drop in demand for the 2026 iPhone. Apple is expected to temporarily cut 20 million panel orders for the 2026 iPhone. This could be offset when the foldable iPhone appears.
“The number of iPhone panels shipped this year is expected to reach 245 million units, up from the same period last year.
“Although iPhone panel demand may decline next year, the launch of the foldable iPhone in 2027 and the new launch strategy could restore production to around 250 million units,” Heo said.
