'Stable livelihoods - A prosperous life'

In recent years, many livelihood support models have been implemented to create jobs, increase income, and stabilize the lives of poor and near-poor households. This is considered an effective solution in implementing the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction giai đoạn 2021-2025 in Tay Ninh province.

Livelihoods handed over - opportunities for change.

During the 2024-2025 period, the commune will implement two projects for breeding cows for near-poor households and households with disabled members, using funds from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. Following the principle of "giving a fishing rod instead of a fish," each household will receive two breeding cows, thereby increasing their income and gradually helping them escape poverty.

According to Giap Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Lap commune: “Sustainable poverty reduction is a long journey, requiring the cooperation of the local government and the will of each household to improve their lives. Recognizing that providing small amounts of money or loans does not yield long-term results, the commune has shifted its focus to supporting sustainable livelihood development. As a result, the percentage of poor households in the commune has decreased to 0.31% and near-poor households to 1.46%, a significant reduction compared to the previous period.”

Simultaneously, the Women's Union of the commune actively supports its members in economic development. The Union effectively implements Project No. 939 on supporting women's entrepreneurship. Leveraging internal resources, each member contributes 2-5 million VND, providing capital for members to engage in small-scale trading and generate livelihoods. In 2025, the Union facilitated access to over 300 million VND in funding from the Social Policy Bank and other women's development support funds for six members.

Ms. Vo Thi Nuong (born in 1966, residing in Rung Sen hamlet, Duc Lap commune) is one of the members who received livelihood support. In 2021, after evaluation, her family was officially removed from the local list of near-poor households. This is not only the result of Ms. Nuong's family's efforts but also the "sweet fruit" of the capital support model of the Women's Union of the commune.

Ms. Vo Thi Nuong (residing in Duc Lap commune) received capital support to raise cattle and develop her family's economy.

Ms. Nuong recounted that life used to be extremely difficult, living in a dilapidated house and mainly working as a laborer to make ends meet. Thanks to the Women's Union of the commune providing her with a loan of 50 million VND, she boldly bought two dairy cows to raise.

After a period of care, the cows give birth to a litter approximately every nine months, with each calf selling for about 15 million VND. From this income, she covers living expenses and invests in growing vegetables and raising chickens and ducks to gradually improve her life. Now, her family's life is more prosperous, and their house has been renovated and looks much nicer.

According to Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Duc Lap commune and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Duc Lap commune: “To promote the movement 'Women helping each other develop sustainable economy,' the Union also regularly encourages members to participate in science and technology training courses. This year, the Union coordinated with relevant agencies to open 3 training courses on agricultural and livestock techniques such as bamboo cultivation and cattle farming, attracting 90 participants... In the future, the Union will continue to review women members in difficult circumstances who need assistance, focusing on creating jobs and providing livelihood resources to help them rise out of poverty sustainably.”

The "key" to helping poor households rise out of poverty.

The multi-livelihood project in Long Cang commune has supported the livelihoods of many poor and near-poor households.

During the 2020-2025 period, Long Cang commune identified sustainable poverty reduction as its central task and implemented it decisively throughout the entire political system. The commune clearly assigned responsibilities to each department and proactively allocated resources to implement support programs. Many solutions were implemented simultaneously, from vocational training and job placement to livelihood transformation, contributing to increased income and improved living standards for the people.

Formerly a near-poor household, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Phuong (residing in Hamlet 5, Long Cang Commune) single-handedly raised two children while suffering from kidney disease and undergoing multiple surgeries, making life very difficult. In 2024, through the efforts of the Women's Union of the commune, she received 3 million VND in support from a benefactor to start a scrap metal business, providing her with additional income to support her life.

Also that year, the commune implemented a multi-livelihood project, providing 200 chicks for Ms. Phuong's family to raise. After about 3 months, Ms. Phuong sold her first batch, earning approximately 18 million VND. After deducting expenses, she continued to invest in raising more chickens and ducks. "I am truly grateful to the government and the commune's organizations for their timely support in providing livelihoods, helping my mother and I have the opportunity to stabilize our lives and gradually improve our situation," Ms. Phuong said.

Thanks to the involvement of the political system and the efforts of the people, the awareness of poverty reduction among the people of Long Cang has undergone a positive transformation. People no longer have a mentality of waiting and relying on others, but instead proactively invest in production and increase their income. Currently, the percentage of poor households in the commune has decreased to 0.23% and near-poor households to 0.83%.

According to Truong Minh Phuc, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Long Cang Commune: “In the coming time, the Commune People's Committee will strictly implement the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term, striving to eliminate poverty by the end of the term. In addition, the commune will continue to coordinate with the Fatherland Front and other organizations to develop an annual support plan for poor and near-poor households through funding sources from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, focusing on livelihood projects and improving access to information.”

Practical livelihood models are opening up opportunities for change for many poor and near-poor households in the province. When policies are on the right track and people strive to improve their lives, the goal of sustainable poverty reduction is no longer a solitary journey but becomes a shared responsibility of the entire community.
