Students are being ridiculed for using AI; what does FPT University say about this?

On the afternoon of August 31st, Mr. Bui Quang Hung, Director ofFPT Polytechnic College, confirmed and stated that the incident occurred on August 10th at the Ho Chi Minh City campus.

After submitting their Color exam for the Graphic Design major, NKL students in class GD1807 received a grade of 0 from lecturer MD for the reason that they "used AI and were unable to edit the work according to the lecturer's instructions, resulting in the quality of the exam being no different from the previous exam."

Notably, after students questioned their grades in the class group chat, the instructor responded via private message, criticizing their approach to completing the assignment.

Subsequently, NKL's parents reported the incident and requested that the school reassess the lecturer's qualifications, providing a response before August 19th.

Two days later, the school convened a review board to examine the student's exam and concluded that the paper received a score of 5. At the review meeting, the student expressed satisfaction with the new result.

On August 21st, the MD instructor met with and apologized to student NKL in person, admitting to sending inappropriate messages within the class when criticizing the student. However, the parents did not approve of the private meeting with the student to resolve the issue and demanded that the instructor apologize within the class group.

On the same day, the lecturer sent a message to the class group with the following specific content: "I congratulate KL on successfully defending her course. During the teaching process, I had some misunderstandings that upset KL. I apologize and hope she regains her motivation and spirit to continue her studies." However, according to Mr. Hung, because KL had left the group earlier, she did not see the message.

The leader also affirmed that the school would not "cover up" if lecturers or staff members engaged in inappropriate or unprofessional behavior. In this incident, lecturer MD's actions towards student KL were not insulting, but rather an inappropriate criticism, both in terms of sentiment and reason.

Mr. Bui Quang Hung acknowledged that this was an unfortunate incident, and FPT College will learn from it. At the same time, the school has held private meetings with the lecturer to review the situation, learn from the experience, and unanimously agreed to terminate the lecturer's employment contract effective August 28th.

Regarding parents' requests for personal information about lecturers, the Director of FPT Polytechnic College emphasized that this request cannot be fulfilled because the school has a responsibility and obligation to adhere to the principle of personal information confidentiality.

"I can confirm that the lecturers have all the required qualifications and certificates and have gone through the recruitment process of FPT College," Mr. Hung added.
