At noon on December 18th, a representative from the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training stated that they had received a report from the Bac Ha District People's Committee regarding the failure to meet regulations and standards for school lunches at Hoang Thu Pho 1 Ethnic Boarding Primary School.
At yesterday's meeting, Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha, the school principal, explained and acknowledged that the images reflecting the school's lunch program were true, as reported by the press.
Each table of 11 students was only given two packets of instant noodles mixed with rice for breakfast, even though the menu stated that each student was entitled to one packet of instant noodles and one egg.
For lunch and dinner, students were given a small amount of chopped ham and vegetable soup, even though the bulletin board dated November 14th stated that, in addition to vegetables, the food for the two meals included 14 kg of pork and 11 kg of bones. Furthermore, the vegetables in the kitchen were rotting, and students were mobilized to pick them out.

Bac Ha District is working with the school's leadership to clearly identify the violations and the responsibilities of the collective and individuals involved in this incident. As soon as a conclusion is reached, it will be reported to the provincial leadership and the information will be released to the press.
An incident at Hoang Thu Pho 1 Ethnic Boarding Primary School has caused widespread outrage. Specifically, according to the food ration list, each student was supposed to receive one packet of instant noodles and one egg, but in reality, the school only provided two packets of noodles for 11 students to share.
The school has a total of 174 boarding students who receive this breakfast. Furthermore, the food used to prepare meals for the students is of poor quality.
On December 17th, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province issued an urgent document requesting Bac Ha district to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training and other relevant units to investigate and clarify the information regarding the meals provided to students at Hoang Thu Pho 1 Ethnic Boarding Primary School.
Shortly afterwards, Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha, the principal of the school, was suspended from his duties for 15 days by the Bac Ha District People's Committee to facilitate an investigation into allegations that the school lunch provided to 174 students at Hoang Thu Pho 1 School was substandard.
