According to GameRant, currently Sony is focusing a lot on technologies for cloud computing games. Recently, the company filed a new patent revealing technology that allows multiple players to control input operation for a single controller through a cloud game service.
Although the PlayStation 5 has dominated the gaming world, it seems that the giant Sony is still not satisfied with this success. The company recently revealed the Project Q Remote Play handheld device that has been in development for the past 8 years. Now, the newly published patent goes on to demonstrate another promising new technology for the PS5 or something the company is about to roll out in the future.
The title of the patent is "Dynamic Allocation of Split Control in a Video Game“, along with a diagram along with a brief summary explaining its capabilities. Essentially, the technology allows for split control of a single controller's input to multiple players via a cloud game service.
Based on the diagram, such as when experiencing a game of the form Street Fighter 6, the feature will allow one person to control the analog stick to move the character, another to operate on the main buttons and the other to control the trigger buttons. It's currently unclear if the feature will work for games that don't work in the cloud, as the patent only describes it as a technology of cloud computing.
This patent is a very interesting idea and could be a groundbreaking accessibility feature that will help gaming enthusiasts with limited hands-on ability to easily experience the game with their friends. It will be interesting to see if Sony finally unveils this technology to the public.
