Mark Zuckerberg once invited Rishabh Agarwal to Meta with a million dollar salary but was refused. Dr. Agarwal and more than 20 AI experts left Meta, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI to join Periodic Labs.
This startup is valued at 1 billion USD, raising 300 million USD in its seed round from venture capital fund a16z and many large funds. Unlike superintelligence ambitions, Periodic focuses on AI that advances scientific discovery in physics and chemistry.
Co-founder Liam Fedus, who created ChatGPT, asserts that the main goal of AI is to “advance science.” In the lab, robots and AI will work together to perform thousands of experiments to find new superconducting materials and compounds. Analysts call Periodic the “ChatGPT moment” of materials science, ushering in an era of more powerful chips and lossless power.
This shift shows that AI talent is leaving Big Tech to pursue projects that have real impact for humanity. Dear readers, please watch more videos : AI Trash Cleaning | Hanoi 18:00
