New information on the path of Typhoon Yagi
At 4:00 AM this morning (September 6th), the center of the super typhoon was located in the northern part of the South China Sea, approximately 200km east-southeast of Hainan Island (China) and about 620km southeast of Quang Ninh province . YAGI maintained its strength as a Category 16 super typhoon (184-201 km/h), with gusts exceeding Category 17. In the past few hours, the typhoon has been moving rapidly westward at a speed of 20 km/h.
International and Vietnamese meteorological stations share the same assessment: the most likely scenario currently is that the storm will move north of Hainan Island, towards the northern Gulf of Tonkin, and then make landfall in the Hai Phong - Quang Ninh area of Vietnam around the morning of September 7th.
The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting predicts that in the next 24 hours (starting at 4:00 AM on September 6th), the storm will move in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 15-20 km/h, crossing Hainan Island and entering the Gulf of Tonkin tonight.
