According to Tech Unwrapped , a new report shows that if given $200 to spend, users are willing to buy a used iPhone before considering a new Android device. This is happening amidst the growing popularity of the used smartphone market in recent years, becoming a great option for budget-conscious users who still want access to a device with good specifications, or even one that could still be considered high-end.
Older iPhones are still popular among users.
The survey indicates that, among the top 10 best-selling used smartphones in March 2023, eight were iPhones. Of these, the iPhone 12 Pro Max was the most expensive, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12. The cheapest was the second-generation iPhone SE, selling for $143. This model, released in 2020, performs quite well thanks to the A13 Bionic chip, the same as in the iPhone 11. Two Android devices on the list of best-selling used phones were the Pixel 6 and the Galaxy S21.
Notably, Apple doesn't sell new smartphones for $200, and that may be one of the reasons why older iPhones are so popular. More importantly, all the iPhones on this list consistently receive iOS updates, regardless of their age. The value of these upgrades, combined with optimized iOS and A-series chips, continues to be major reasons for consumer loyalty.
Ultimately, not everyone has the financial means to invest in the rather expensive iPhone 14, so people are turning to the used iPhone market as alternatives even if they have enough money to buy the latest Android phone models.
