The power of compassion

In recent days, the story of Phan Van Thanh, the head of the security and order protection team in Xuan Ha 1 hamlet, Thanh Cong commune, who bravely risked his life to save people from the raging floodwaters, has moved many people. He has passed away, but he leaves behind for his homeland a shining example, a warm flame of humanity and a sense of responsibility.

On behalf of the President of Vietnam , Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To presented the "Medal of Courage" to a representative of the family of Comrade Phan Van Thanh.

On October 19th, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province issued a decision to launch a campaign encouraging all officials, civil servants, employees, and citizens to learn from the courageous example of Phan Van Thanh. This is a meaningful act, demonstrating respect for the person who sacrificed their life and inspiring the community to live beautifully and responsibly.

In the midst of modern life, people are sometimes easily caught up in worries and rarely stop to share. Mr. Thanh's story makes everyone believe more in goodness. Courage doesn't need to be grand gestures. It manifests in simple actions, whether it's a dedicated official serving the people, a patient teacher, or a citizen readily helping those in need... and if that spirit is nurtured in each individual and each group, it will become a force that brings about positive change.

This campaign focuses on concrete actions, not formalities. Agencies and units are required to translate their learning into practical actions: working more responsibly, living more compassionately, and spreading positive values in daily life. When these values are consistently practiced, the patriotic emulation movement will gain more depth, sustainability, and authenticity.

Thai Nguyen is a land of compassion and kindness, where people have endured hardship yet maintained their benevolence. During the fierce years of war, countless sons and daughters of this land were ready to sacrifice themselves for the Fatherland. And today, amidst peaceful life, there are still people like Phan Van Thanh who quietly do good deeds in everyday life, not for fame or reward, but simply because their conscience tells them to, because of their humanity and responsibility to their fellow countrymen. It is this very quality that makes the concept of "hero" more relatable, prompting each of us to reflect on ourselves and live more virtuously each day.

The story of Mr. Thanh will eventually fade with time, but the echoes of his actions will continue to resonate. When a person dares to forget themselves for the sake of others, that example will illuminate people's hearts, reminding us to live more compassionately and responsibly.

And when that spirit is nurtured in the hearts of the people of Thai Nguyen, it will become a silent flame, perhaps small but enduring, powerful enough to warm human relationships and make life more fulfilling. That is also the time for each of us to join hands in transforming compassion into concrete actions, responding to emulation movements, and spreading good deeds to build a Thai Nguyen that is increasingly compassionate, humane, and prosperous.
