Over 85% of the coffee replanting plan has been achieved.
The total area for coffee replanting in the province during the 2021-2025 period is over 45,644 hectares, equivalent to nearly 85.1% of the plan. According to Mr. Tran Quang Duy, Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Lam Dong province, the reason why the area for replanting and grafting coffee has only reached over 85% of the plan is primarily due to difficulties in controlling the use of replanted coffee varieties supplied to farmers, while farmers have limited access to loan capital, leading to a failure to follow the recommended technical procedures of the agricultural sector. Information dissemination, technical guidance, and procedures for borrowing capital for coffee replanting have been inadequate, causing farmers to be confused when preparing credit applications at banks.

Another reason is that most farmers are replanting coffee in a piecemeal fashion on small plots of land, corresponding to a very low percentage of the loans provided by banks. Furthermore, some farmers choose to borrow from regular sources instead of the coffee replanting fund, limiting their investment. In addition, the demand for coffee seedlings for replanting in the province is very high, but the seedling cultivation capacity of businesses, farms, and individual farmers is insufficient to meet it.
Significantly, with the project to develop key industrial crops, which includes replanting and grafting old, low-yielding coffee trees with new, disease-resistant, high-yielding, and high-quality varieties, the province has only achieved about 70% of the target so far, 20% lower than the set goal. Furthermore, the province still has many areas of old coffee trees over 20 years old with low yields and severe pest and disease infestations, requiring continued grafting, replanting, and care to meet sustainable standards.
Expanding the model of environmentally friendly coffee shops.
Continuing the implementation phase from 2026 to 2030, the province's agricultural sector aims to replant and graft 25,000 hectares of robusta coffee and 260 hectares of arabica coffee. This will increase the total area of replanted coffee with new, high-quality varieties to nearly 260,000 hectares; grant planting area codes to 226,000 hectares for product traceability; and cultivate approximately 160,000 hectares according to safety standards, minimizing environmental impact and increasing farmers' income.
By the end of 2025, the total coffee growing area in the province is expected to reach over 323,241 hectares, corresponding to a total production of 1,001,710 tons. Currently, the Tay Nguyen Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology has selected and developed a set of coffee varieties suitable for the climate and soil of the Central Highlands region in general, and Lam Dong province in particular, aiming to increase the proportion of new coffee varieties from 60% to 90% by 2030, and continue to recognize superior coffee plants in each locality.
Besides implementing solutions such as grafting and replanting coffee, the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection is tasked with leading and coordinating with units and localities in the province to build a database system on coffee growing areas to support businesses and farmers in complying with EUDR regulations on coffee production without deforestation and to ensure product traceability. Simultaneously, it will promote the application of digital transformation, build and replicate smart, organic, environmentally friendly agricultural models that adapt to climate change. In particular, it will pilot a model of coffee cultivation with reduced emissions to meet the needs of international organizations; and guide organizations and individuals in registering and using the geographical indication "Lam Dong Coffee"...
