Mr. Ngo Xuan Khiem, Secretary of the Party Committee of Le Hong commune, Thanh Mien district (on the right), discusses some local situations with the Head of the People's Inspection Committee.

Closer to the people

More than two years ago, Mr. Ngo Xuan Khiem, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee's Organization Department, was transferred by the Thanh Mien District Party Committee to the position of Secretary of the Le Hong Commune Party Committee. As someone new to the area, he inevitably faced some challenges. At that time, Le Hong Commune was focusing on improving many rural roads and clearing land for the project to renovate and upgrade District Road 195.

Many difficulties arose during the implementation of these tasks. Some households disagreed, hindering the project's progress. Leadership and guidance in resolving these issues were sometimes inappropriate. Fortunately, Mr. Khiem always received enthusiastic support from local officials, especially the people's inspection force.

In addition to participating in meetings, interacting with constituents, and engaging in dialogue with the people, members of the People's Inspection Committee have repeatedly met directly with him at the grassroots level to exchange information, offer suggestions, and propose solutions to help him perform his duties better. From these frank and sincere suggestions, Mr. Khiem changed his leadership mindset, recognizing that some areas required decisive action, while others needed a more gentle and skillful approach. "Listening to their suggestions, I increased my visits to the grassroots, meeting with the people more often to listen and explain the long-term goals of the projects. Many households understood and joined forces with the local authorities to implement them. To me, they are like family, always offering sincere feedback so that I can self-reflect and correct," Mr. Khiem shared.

Mr. Le Cong Trung, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Tu Minh Ward ( Hai Duong City), also highly appreciated the role and importance of the People's Inspection and Community Investment Monitoring Committee. He informed: "Recently, the ward has carried out many major, breakthrough projects and achieved clear results and changes, especially in land clearance for projects, expanding and upgrading Vu Cong Dan Street, handling violations on public land, and urban order... These results are due in no small part to the contributions of the members of the People's Inspection and Community Investment Monitoring Committee."

For Mr. Trung personally, the regular consultations and suggestions from higher-level forces have helped him lead and direct his work more effectively. He spends a lot of time going to the grassroots level to understand the situation, listen to public opinion, and address the problems raised by the people. Although he has only been working in this ward for 8 months, Mr. Trung has led the resolution of most violations on public land, preventing new violations from occurring. He has also received praise for boldly transferring some officials working in the field of administrative procedure reform who were hesitant, evasive, and slow in their work to other positions, replacing them with dynamic, proactive individuals who can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and serve the people better...

Stronger, more decisive

In reality, many violations occurring in residential areas related to the environment, land encroachment, etc., are known to village officials, but they are hesitant to confront them and lack decisiveness in resolving them due to entanglement with neighbors and relatives. However, thanks to the involvement of the People's Inspection Committee, these violations have gradually been eliminated.

Mr. Ngo Ba Cuong, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nam Chinh commune (Nam Sach district), said that earlier this year, a household in Bich Dong village arbitrarily converted a rice paddy into a fish pond. The People's Inspection Committee discovered this and requested village officials to take decisive action, as delaying the issue could lead to new violations. The village officials heeded the advice and acted more decisively, forcing the household to restore the land to its original state. A few years ago, also in this village, a household raising a large number of pigs and chickens caused environmental pollution, prompting public outcry. After the People's Inspection Committee made a request, village officials intervened and implemented various solutions, forcing the household to build additional biogas tanks...

Last year, also in Nam Chinh commune, a household in Hoang Xa village arbitrarily filled in a communal pond to encroach on public land, but the People's Inspection Committee discovered the violation and successfully resolved it by recommending that village officials take action. "The role and responsibility of the people's inspection force have been highly promoted, helping the heads of local Party committees and authorities to be more decisive and resolute in resolving violations, contributing to the stability of security and public opinion at the grassroots level," Mr. Cuong said.

Some leaders of the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune said that thanks to the sincere and open feedback from the people's inspection force, they have recognized and overcome many shortcomings in their personal lives as well as in management and administration, such as: being hot-tempered in handling work, sometimes not managing local officials strictly enough, allowing some people to cause trouble and harass the people...

Originating from the people and living among them, grassroots people's inspection forces are able to promptly detect Party members who lack exemplary conduct or violate Party regulations, and "report" these violations to the local Party committee leaders for corrective action.

Next episode: Not afraid of difficulties, not afraid of challenges.
