According to Bild , the suspect, believed to be a Syrian citizen, brought an axe and a hammer onto the ICE 91 train in Germany on the afternoon of July 3 (local time). At that time, the train was carrying about 500 passengers on its way to Vienna (Austria).

The male suspect then attacked passengers on the train with an axe. Passengers managed to subdue the suspect, pulling the emergency brake to stop the train near the village of Straßkirchen before police could arrest him.
Local media reported that emergency services deployed seven ambulances, two rescue helicopters and two rapid response teams to the scene.
After the train stopped, passengers were taken off and given psychological support.
According to the Bavarian Red Cross, the attack left five people injured. The suspect is believed to have been seriously injured and was taken to hospital by helicopter.

Police said the railway was temporarily closed and nearby roads were also closed. Authorities are investigating.
Previously, in Germany in May 2025, a woman stabbed and injured more than 10 people at Hamburg's central station. In February, a driver plowed his car into a crowd in Munich, killing two people and injuring more than 20.
