The 14th extraordinary session of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council, 10th term.

On April 28, the 10th term of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council held its 14th extraordinary session. Attending the session were: Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the Dong Thap Provincial Delegation to the National Assembly ; and Mr. Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

In his opening remarks at the session, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Phan Van Thang, emphasized that at this session, the Provincial People's Council will consider and vote on the plan to reorganize Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces, and the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units in Dong Thap province; and at the same time, consider and decide on a number of issues related to the province's socio-economic development tasks. This is a particularly important political task, so he requested delegates to demonstrate a sense of responsibility, carefully study the contents presented at the session, and asked the Provincial People's Committee and specialized agencies to provide information, explanations, and further clarification on related issues so that the Provincial People's Council delegates can consider and decide with a high rate of consensus and agreement.

At the meeting, delegates heard reports from leaders of departments and agencies on draft resolutions regarding the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units in Dong Thap province; voted on the policy of rearranging Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces; and discussed plans for developing the trade sector, border economy, service sectors, production and business, and logistics services within the Dong Thap provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050…


Delegates divided into discussion groups.

The leaders of the Provincial People's Council's committees reported on the results of their review of the draft resolutions submitted by the Provincial People's Committee. The delegates were divided into three groups for discussion. After the discussions, the delegates reached a high level of consensus and voted to approve eight draft resolutions.

These include a Resolution approving the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units in Dong Thap province; after the reorganization, Dong Thap province will have a total of 45 commune-level administrative units (including 7 wards and 38 communes); a reduction of 96 commune-level administrative units, achieving a rate of 68.09%. There is also a Resolution approving the plan to establish Dong Thap province based on the reorganization of Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces, with the administrative and political center located in Tien Giang province...

In his closing remarks at the session, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Phan Van Thang, requested that immediately after this session, the Provincial People's Committee promptly finalize the dossier for the Project on Reorganizing Commune-Level Administrative Units and submit it to the Ministry of Interior for appraisal, and report to the Government for submission to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly according to the set schedule. At the same time, a detailed plan should be prepared for immediate implementation after the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly is issued; and coordination with the Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee should be undertaken to compile a report to be sent to the Ministry of Interior for appraisal of the Project on Reorganizing Provincial-Level Administrative Units.

Mr. Phan Van Thang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, delivered the closing remarks at the session.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Phan Van Thang requested that all levels, sectors, and localities closely adhere to the contents of the Provincial Steering Committee's plan for the rearrangement and merger of provincial and commune-level administrative units and the organization of the two-tiered local government system to implement assigned tasks, ensuring progress and quality; continue to do a good job of information dissemination, propaganda, and guiding public opinion to create unity and consensus; and strengthen the leadership, guidance, and responsibility of the heads of agencies, units, and localities in the implementation process.

This is the time for every Party committee, government, mass organization, locality, agency, unit, cadre, Party member, civil servant, public employee, union member, association member, and the people to highly promote the spirit of patriotic emulation with the motto of high determination, great effort, decisive and effective action; consistent in thought and the highest political determination to focus on leading, directing, and organizing the comprehensive and effective implementation in all fields, better meeting the hopes and expectations of voters and the people, emphasized Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Phan Van Thang.
