GROW YOUR OWN FLOWERS FOR TET (LUNAR NEW YEAR)
According to experienced flower growers, the end of October in the lunar calendar is the ideal time to start sowing flowers for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). Depending on each family's circumstances, flowers can be planted in the ground or in pots. Potted plants are a popular choice because they save space, are easy to care for, and are convenient to move.
Flowers such as marigolds, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, cockscomb, and flamingos are popular because they are easy to grow, grow quickly, have vibrant colors, and symbolize good fortune during Tet (Vietnamese New Year).

These days, in many localities throughout the province, it's not uncommon to see small courtyards covered with dozens of potted flowers, all in their growth phase, waiting to bloom.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sau (An Thanh Thuy commune) excitedly showed off his pots of phoenix flower plants, over 30 days old and thriving: "For the past few years, since I retired, I've had a lot of free time, so I've been growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) for fun and to exercise my body and stay healthy."
Nowadays, seeds, plastic pots, soil, fertilizers, and other flower care supplies are easily available at flower shops and agricultural supply stores. Flower cultivation techniques are not too complicated; mainly, it involves regular watering, proper fertilization, and timing to ensure the flowers bloom in time for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year).
Currently, many families choose to buy pre-grown seedlings at markets for prices ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 VND per plant, depending on the type. Maintaining the tradition of growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) for many years, Ms. Mai Thi Lanh (Cho Gao commune) said that each year her family grows several dozen pots of marigolds for decoration and offerings to their ancestors.

Notably, it's not just older people who enjoy growing their own flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). Mr. Thanh Phong (Dao Thanh ward) said: "This year, I'm growing more flowers than last year to give as gifts to relatives and friends. Growing flowers myself helps me relax, reduce stress, and feel closer to nature in modern life."
THE MARKET FOR TET FLOWER SEEDS IS BOOMING.
Along National Highway 50 (the section passing through My Phong ward), flower and plant nurseries are busier than usual. People stop to buy a variety of seedlings such as marigolds, cockscomb, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, ornamental peppers, carnations, etc., to take home and care for, waiting for the flowers to bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year).

Ms. Chúc, owner of the Năm Phong ornamental flower shop, said: "Every year at the beginning of October in the lunar calendar, we start sowing flower seeds to serve people planting for Tet (Lunar New Year). Each Tet season, I sell nearly 40,000 seedlings of various types, with prices ranging from a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of dong per plant. Thanks to that, I earn nearly 20 million dong extra each Tet season."

Along with seedlings, items such as flower pots, potting soil, fertilizers, and flower care tools are also selling well these days. In addition, many people are ordering seeds and seedlings online and researching planting techniques to ensure they have flowers ready for the Lunar New Year.
Displaying flowers and ornamental plants during Tet (Vietnamese New Year) has become a long-standing cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people. For many families, spending time and effort growing flowers themselves not only makes the spring space more vibrant but also brings a warm, joyful, and meaningful Tet celebration.
