Currently, the spring rice crop in the province is growing and developing well, with some early-planted areas reaching maximum tillering. However, the complex weather patterns, with depleted water levels in major rivers, deep saltwater intrusion, and prolonged heatwaves, pose a risk of severe pest and disease outbreaks, affecting rice yields.
The Agricultural Extension Center is intensifying its field outreach and disseminating information through mass media to ensure farmers are up-to-date on how to care for the spring rice crop.
In light of this situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requests that units and localities implement urgent measures to care for and protect the spring rice crop. Specifically, the People's Committees of districts and cities, and the Departments of Agriculture and Environment, should strengthen field inspections, detect pests and diseases early, and implement timely pest and disease control measures, especially for the two-spotted stem borer and rice blast disease in coastal areas.
The North Thai Binh and South Thai Binh Irrigation Works Exploitation Companies are proactively checking water sources to ensure sufficient irrigation water and to leach out acidity, alum, and salinity in coastal areas, preventing rice crops from being affected by drought and salinity.
The Department of Crop Production and Livestock, the Department of Irrigation, and the Agricultural Extension Center mobilized technical staff to closely monitor the fields, forecast pest and disease situations, and guide farmers in implementing effective control measures. The Agricultural Extension Center intensified dissemination of information through mass media to ensure farmers were up-to-date on how to care for the spring rice crop.
