Thach That is an ancient land with a rich history and culture, located at the western gateway of Hanoi . The district currently has 209 historical sites, including Tay Phuong Pagoda, which is classified as a special national-level site, 34 national-level sites, 66 provincial/city-level sites, and the Tay Son Dynasty statues at Tay Phuong Pagoda (34 statues) recognized as national treasures. In addition, the district has 50 craft villages, 10 of which have been awarded the title of "Traditional Craft Village".
Implementing Program No. 06-CTr/TU dated March 17, 2021, of the Hanoi City Party Committee, Thach That district has guided communes with tourist areas and attractions to carry out propaganda and mobilization to encourage people to voluntarily and actively participate in preserving the environment, ensuring landscape, security and order, cleaning village roads and alleys, practicing a civilized lifestyle, and behaving friendly towards tourists; thereby actively participating in building safe, friendly, and high-quality tourist destinations.
Notably, tourism infrastructure has received significant investment, including upgrading connecting roads to tourist areas and attractions such as Hoang Long and Tay Phuong Pagoda; and constructing new kiosks and public restrooms in the Tay Phuong Pagoda historical site…
According to Pham Quang Thai, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Thach That District, to promote the Tay Phuong Pagoda Festival as a tourist destination, the locality organized many unique traditional cultural, artistic, and sports activities, as well as over 100 exhibition booths showcasing traditional craft products and OCOP products from businesses and households in the district, Hanoi, and other provinces and cities, attracting tens of thousands of visitors for sightseeing and shopping.
In 2024, the number of tourists visiting the district increased significantly, estimated at 247,000, an increase of 80,000; of which, over 98,000 visited Tay Phuong Pagoda alone.
In Me Linh district, the model "Historical and cultural relics - safe and attractive destinations" is one of the highlights in implementing the Code of Conduct in public places in the district. This establishes common standards to guide the behavior, attitudes, habits, and civilized conduct of organizations and individuals when participating in activities at historical sites, contributing to the preservation and development of the fine traditions of Hanoi, the thousand-year-old capital of culture.
Representatives from the Management Board of the Hai Ba Trung Temple historical site stated that the Board has intensified efforts to promote and encourage people and tourists visiting the site to comply with regulations regarding attire, rituals, offerings, and donations. They have also incorporated the Code of Conduct into the explanatory texts at the site during festivals. The Management Board maintains the temple's opening hours year-round, from 6 AM to 5 PM; on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the opening hours are earlier.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the total number of tourists visiting Hanoi in 2024 is projected to reach 27.86 million, an increase of 12.7% compared to 2023. This includes 6.35 million international tourists (of which 4.47 million are overnight stays), an increase of 34.4% compared to 2023, and 21.51 million domestic tourists, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2023. Total revenue from tourism is expected to reach approximately VND 110.52 trillion, an increase of 18.3% compared to 2023.
Furthermore, it is essential to improve the quality of tour guides at the historical site for domestic and international visitors who come to visit and participate in ceremonies. This will help them gain a deeper understanding of the homeland, life, and achievements of the Trung Sisters in defending the country; the historical significance of the site; and the Vietnamese tradition of remembering one's roots and showing gratitude to the Trung Sisters and other ancestors who contributed to nation-building and national defense. As a result, the site's appeal will increase.
“The total number of visitors coming to the site for sightseeing, worship, learning, and experiences in 2024 is estimated at over 460,000. Total revenue from donations in 2024 is expected to reach 5.5 billion VND,” said Pham Tran Quang, Head of the Management Board of the Hai Ba Trung Temple.
Hanoi - Vietnam's leading cultural destination.
With its rich cultural heritage of Son Tay - Xu Doai and its diverse system of historical and cultural relics, the model "Historical and Cultural Relics - Safe and Attractive Destinations" has been implemented at the Duong Lam ancient village and Long Ho hamlet tourist sites in Kim Son commune. This aims to combine relic preservation with sustainable tourism development, creating a safe and attractive tourism environment.
To implement the model, the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village Relics and the People's Committee of Kim Son Commune have closely coordinated with local departments, agencies, and mass organizations to effectively implement the Code of Conduct in public places at relic sites, helping tourists comply with regulations on attire, hygiene, and behavior when visiting and performing rituals at the relic sites.
According to statistics, in the first 11 months of 2024, the Duong Lam ancient village tourist site welcomed over 135,000 visitors. “This model not only helps maintain order at historical sites but also raises awareness about protecting cultural heritage, creating a safe tourism environment for visitors to Duong Lam ancient village and the Long Ho hamlet tourist site in Kim Son commune,” shared Nguyen Hai Anh, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Son Tay town.
According to the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Tourism, Hanoi is a land rich in cultural identity, leading the country in the number of historical sites within its territory with 5,922 inventoried sites. These include 1 World Heritage site, 20 clusters of national-level special historical sites, 1,163 national-level historical sites, and 1,500 city-level historical sites.
These are considered invaluable legacies for future generations, and also important resources for the development of Hanoi's tourism. Recognizing this significance and importance, the Hanoi City Party Committee issued Program 06/CTr-TU on Cultural Development, Improving the Quality of Human Resources, and Building Elegant and Civilized Hanoi Citizens. In this program, implementing the Code of Conduct in Public Places and building a civilized lifestyle at historical sites and places of worship is a crucial aspect, focusing on preserving and promoting the values of Thang Long and Hanoi's heritage, and contributing to building elegant and civilized Hanoi citizens.
According to Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, there are currently about 133 tourist attractions and sites in Hanoi. Implementing the 2017 Tourism Law, the Hanoi People's Committee has so far recognized 50 tourist destinations and areas at the city level, including 42 tourist sites and 8 tourist areas at the city level. The effective management and exploitation of these destinations and tourist areas have contributed positively to the strong growth of the tourism industry.
The tourism industry in Hanoi continues to affirm its position, image, and brand in the region and globally. In particular, 2024 marks Hanoi's first victory in the category of "Vietnam's Leading Cultural Destination," recognizing the city's cultural, historical, and traditional values – a place that preserves many valuable tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites, maintained and developed over centuries, making it an ideal destination for tourists who love exploring culture and history.
“Tourist areas and attractions in Hanoi are highly appreciated by tourists for their resource value, cultural value, and conservation and restoration efforts. The friendliness of the local community has also left a strong impression on tourists, contributing to building the image of Hanoi as a peaceful and hospitable tourist destination,” said Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism.

The Hat Mon Temple, a special national historical site in Hat Mon commune, Phuc Tho district, has been recognized as a city-level tourist destination by Decision No. 4613/QD-UBND dated September 4, 2024, of the Hanoi People's Committee. The District People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture and Information to coordinate with the District Women's Union to organize a public awareness campaign on the Code of Conduct for 120 officials and members at the Hat Mon Temple guesthouse and to launch the model of a "Model Scenic Area/Historical Site in Hat Mon Commune".
To date, all staff and caretakers of the historical site have consistently behaved courteously, politely, and appropriately; suggestion boxes and hotlines have been installed at the Hat Mon Temple, a special national historical site, and so far, no negative feedback or suggestions have been received from visitors. Thousands of visitors come to the site annually for sightseeing and worship. In the first 10 months of 2024 alone, there were over 60 tour groups and more than 6,000 individual visitors who came to explore and learn about the site.
