Currently, junior and senior high schools throughout the province are simultaneously implementing review plans for 9th and 12th grade students. For the 2024-2025 school year, Hai Hung Junior High School (Hai Hau district) has a total of 172 9th grade students. At this time, the school's 9th grade students are diligently reviewing for the 10th grade entrance exam. According to the school year time frame stipulated by the Provincial People's Committee, the school expects to finish the school year before May 31, 2025. However, due to Circular 29/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training , which has just come into effect, specifying more details on organizing extra classes and tutoring, the school has made appropriate adjustments to its teaching and review plan for 9th grade students to ensure compliance with regulations while maintaining the quality of teaching and learning. According to Mr. Dinh Van Dam, the school principal, the review sessions for 9th-grade students preparing for the high school entrance exam are being conducted concurrently with the completion of the regular curriculum. Given the inability to organize large-scale extra classes as before, the school has flexibly utilized afternoons without regular classes to provide free review sessions for students. Specifically, students review three subjects for the entrance exam: Literature, Mathematics, and English, with two lessons per subject per week. In addition, teachers guide students on self-study and review skills at home. Beyond classroom review time, teachers also develop a system of exercises, self-study outlines, and provide academic counseling to help students learn effectively. All review activities are conducted by the school's teachers completely free of charge, on a voluntary basis, demonstrating their dedication and high sense of responsibility towards the students.
The school held a parent-teacher meeting for 9th-grade students to inform them about their children's academic progress, the enrollment quotas for high schools in the area, and new aspects of this year's entrance exam. This provided parents with sufficient information to support their children during the review process. The junior high school graduation exam at Hai Hung Junior High School is scheduled for May 14, 2025. Following this, students will enter a period of intensive review for the 10th-grade entrance exam, scheduled for early June according to the Department of Education and Training's schedule.
At the high school level, schools in the province have proactively adjusted their teaching plans and study schedules to improve the effectiveness of preparation for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. At Le Quy Don High School (Truc Ninh), the preparation for the High School Graduation Exam has been implemented very early with specific orientations, tailored to students' abilities. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 417 12th-grade students who will participate in the High School Graduation Exam, expected to be held at the end of June. Based on the students' academic level, the school has developed a review plan that closely matches the actual level of each group of students, while also ensuring adherence to the curriculum and sample exam questions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dang, the school principal, shared: “From very early on, we instructed the subject departments to review the curriculum, closely following the sample exam questions from the Ministry of Education and Training to develop review outlines. Differentiating students into academic groups helps teachers adjust their teaching methods accordingly. In addition, the school organizes periodic competency assessments to update results and flexibly adjust the review plan.”
To help students familiarize themselves with the exam structure, the school organized numerous mock exams with the same format and time limits as the official exam. Along with imparting knowledge, teachers also provided advice on study strategies, test-taking skills, and effective time management. The compulsory subjects for the graduation exam, including Mathematics, Literature, and elective subjects, were allocated reasonable study time, ensuring comprehensive and scientific preparation. In particular, the school collaborated with parents and homeroom teachers to understand students' psychological state, providing timely encouragement and support during this crucial period. Tran Minh Anh, a 12th-grade student, shared: “Initially, I was quite worried because of the large amount of knowledge, but after receiving thorough guidance from the teachers and taking regular mock exams, I feel more confident. I aim to get into the Information Technology program at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.”
Teachers and students at the school are making their utmost efforts, racing against time to prepare for the 2025 High School Graduation Examination with the following goals: 100% of students will be recognized as having graduated from high school; the average score of all subjects will be in the top 10 of the Department of Education; at least 5 subjects will be in the top 5 of the province; striving for 90% of students to be admitted to their first-choice universities; striving for an average score of 23 points or higher in all subject combinations for university entrance exams; striving for students to achieve 29 points or higher in the school's strong university entrance exam subject combinations such as combinations A, A1, B, D07, and D; and striving to have a student who is the top scorer in the province.
Comrade Cao Van Giap, Head of the Secondary Education Department of the Department of Education and Training, said: To ensure effective review, starting from February 2025, the Department advised the Department's leadership to issue a directive to secondary and high schools to adjust their educational and review plans to suit the learning roadmap of 9th and 12th grade students. Accordingly, secondary schools organize exam review classes by subject; each subject is taught no more than 2 lessons/week; attention is paid to guiding students on learning methods and self-study; and the results of students' review are strengthened. High schools are required to arrange teaching content appropriately, focusing on core and important knowledge. At the same time, the organization of review needs to closely follow the structure of the graduation exam, combining periodic tests and corrections to help students effectively systematize their knowledge. In addition, schools need to survey students' needs to build review classes for the graduation exam subjects, ensuring flexibility and effectiveness. In particular, implementing Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training on supplementary teaching and learning, high schools in the province have proactively adjusted their teaching and review plans to ensure effective review for graduating students. Schools have organized free review classes, focusing on key content, guiding students on self-study methods, and effectively utilizing online resources.
In the context of continuous educational innovation, schools in the province have proactively developed scientific and effective review plans, tailored to the specific characteristics of each grade level and local conditions. Along with making every effort to provide students with the best possible review conditions, schools have instructed teachers to proactively contact parents and request their cooperation in monitoring their children's academic progress, creating favorable conditions in terms of time, nutrition, and morale to help students focus on exam preparation.
The 2025 Grade 10 entrance exam and high school graduation exam are not only a measure of students' abilities but also reflect the quality of education in the province. The entire education sector has acted promptly to adapt and support students and parents amidst numerous changes in regulations and new educational requirements. With thorough preparation, a high sense of responsibility from the teaching staff, and the efforts of the students, we are confident that students in all schools will achieve excellent results, continuing to pursue their dreams on this important and meaningful educational journey.
