| Farmers in Na Di village (Phong Quang commune) are preparing the land for spring planting. |
From early morning, in the fields of Na Di village, Phong Quang commune, people were already out working the land, building embankments, and bringing water into the fields. Many fields were plowed and the soil thoroughly dried, ready for planting the spring rice crop.
In areas at risk of water scarcity and where rice cultivation is difficult, farmers are proactively switching to growing cash crops such as corn, soybeans, and short-term vegetables to increase land utilization and boost income. The atmosphere is one of urgency and enthusiasm, as early-year production is considered by the highland people as a crucial start for the entire year.
Ms. Mac Thi Dep, from Na Di village, Phong Quang commune, said: "This spring, my family prepared over 2,000 square meters of land for rice cultivation, and also utilized some alluvial land along the stream to grow corn. Everyone in the family has mobilized manpower and machinery to plow the land, clear irrigation ditches, and prepare for sowing seedlings, ready to transplant rice and plant corn after the Lunar New Year."
This year, new rice varieties, hybrid corn varieties, and high-quality vegetables continue to be introduced into production, replacing low-yielding varieties. Land preparation, planting, and cultivation processes are guided by local officials through training courses and technology transfer from the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
Ms. Nong Thi Thu, residing in Thuan Hung village, Thuong Quan commune, said: "My family owns nearly 3,000 square meters of rice fields. Taking advantage of favorable weather, we have been preparing the land and planting tobacco over the past few days. The plants are now about 20cm tall. Due to a lack of irrigation water, caring for the plants has been quite difficult, but thanks to proactively applying technical measures, the tobacco plants are still growing and developing well. Some areas for planting rice and corn have also been prepared by the family, waiting until after the Lunar New Year when the weather is favorable to plant them."

Thanks to the proactive efforts of the people, local authorities at all levels have promptly developed plans for spring crop production, ensuring that the crop structure is suitable for the conditions of each region.
The supply of seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural materials has been fully and promptly prepared. The irrigation system has been inspected and repaired to ensure water availability for planting. Agricultural extension officers are closely monitoring the situation on the ground, guiding farmers to plant at the right time, proactively preventing and controlling pests and diseases, and minimizing the impact of adverse weather conditions.
Mr. Ma Van Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Minh commune, informed: To achieve high efficiency in spring crop production, the People's Committee of the commune has issued plans, targets, and production methods suitable for each village, and at the same time directed specialized officials to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to organize implementation. At this time, people are actively preparing the land for planting in the area.
Cao Minh commune has also proactively anticipated potential difficulties arising from erratic weather patterns, including severe cold spells affecting crops and livestock. With the coordinated efforts of the government, relevant agencies, and the diligence of the people, this year's spring crop is expected to yield high results.
