Rice damaged by floods

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, as of October 30, flood damage in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province was more than 33 billion VND.

Of which, nearly 2,274 hectares of rice were damaged (932.8 hectares were damaged over 70%, 1,307 hectares were damaged from 30 - 70% and 34 hectares were damaged under 30%); nearly 198 hectares of fruit trees were damaged (188.1 hectares were damaged over 70%, 9.8 hectares were damaged from 30 - 70%); 81.4 hectares of vegetables were damaged (65.4 hectares were damaged over 70%, 16 hectares were damaged from 30 - 70%).

In addition, 12.1 hectares of aquaculture and 200 houses were flooded, and 3 traffic routes were damaged, flooded, and collapsed.

Faced with the situation of rapidly rising flood water levels, in some communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region where rice fields are threatened by floods, the People's Committees of the communes have proactively deployed forces and coordinated with the people to reinforce the dikes against floods.

Specifically, Vinh Chau commune reinforced 179km (32 enclosures), protecting nearly 8,000ha of rice; Khanh Hung commune reinforced 9.8km (8 enclosures), protecting about 1,240ha of rice; Tan Thanh commune reinforced 61.5km (45 enclosures), protecting 5,400ha of rice and other crops; Thanh Phuoc commune reinforced about 50km (11 enclosures); Moc Hoa commune reinforced about 18.6km (16 dykes), protecting 1,684ha of rice.

Local authorities organize to reinforce dikes to protect rice fields.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment regularly monitors flood, weather and natural disaster situations provided by specialized agencies to provide timely direction in response, prevention and overcoming of damage caused by natural disasters; organizes reports on flood levels and flood impacts in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region so that agencies, units and localities can grasp and provide direction./.
