The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA, on the morning of February 5th (Vietnam time).
This year's Grammy Awards marked a strong competition among female vocalists. Singer SZA led with 9 nominations for her album SOS (2022). Following her were Phoebe Bridges and Victoria Monét with 7 nominations each. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and boygenius each received 6 nominations.
At the awards ceremony, Miley Cyrus was a big winner, taking home two Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit song "Flowers." These were Miley Cyrus's first Grammys after eight previous nominations.
Miley Cyrus took home two Grammy awards in the categories of Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
The song is about a girl's joy at returning to single life. Many fans speculate that the song is a message from her to her ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" quickly became a hit after its release. The song garnered 1.16 billion streams in just two months and was the most used song by audiences worldwide in 2023.
At the awards ceremony, Taylor Swift set a record by winning Album of the Year. With this win, she became the artist with the most Album of the Year awards. Celine Dion appeared after a period of seclusion for medical treatment to present this important award. Earlier, Taylor Swift also won in the Best Pop Album category with Midnight.
Midnight is the singer's 10th studio album, released in October 2023. The album had the most streams on Spotify globally on its first day (185 million streams) and ranked third in its first week (549 million streams). The album dominated the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 and achieved massive sales with over 1.6 million copies sold in the US and over 3 million copies sold internationally.
Taylor Swift has received two more Grammy awards in her career.
When her name was called, Taylor Swift was visibly emotional, thanking the Academy and her fans. The singer also surprised everyone by announcing the release of her new album on April 19th, titled The Tortured Poets Department.
"This is my 13th Grammy, a lucky number for me. I know the way the Academy awards prizes reflects the passion of the fans. So, I want to thank the fans by telling you a secret I've kept from you for the past two years."
My brand new album will be released on April 19th. It's called The Tortured Poets Department. I'll post the album cover art shortly. I love you all."
Jay Z received the Global Influencer award. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his displeasure that his wife, Beyoncé, had not won Album of the Year . “She has more Grammys than anyone else and has never won Album of the Year. Isn’t that ridiculous? Think about it,” the rapper fumed.
Billie Ellish won the "Song of the Year" category.
In the Song of the Year category, Billie Eilish won with " What Was I Made For?" - the theme song from the movie Barbie. The song, co-written by Billie Eilish and her brother, reflects on the purpose of life. This result was considered surprising as she beat out Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lana Del Rey.
In the Best R&B Song category, the award went to Snooze by singer SZA. The R&B star's hit song topped the Billboard charts for 12 consecutive weeks. This Best R&B Song award marks SZA's third win.
