Vietnam, one of the world's fastest-growing economies and also the 17th largest emitter of CO₂ globally, is committed to rapid, green, and sustainable economic growth, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.

Throughout this journey, Techcombank is proud to be a pioneering private bank in Vietnam, with many initiatives and concrete contributions, including joining hands with the Gaia Nature Conservation Center (Gaia) to "plant and restore forests," in response to the 1 Billion Tree Project for the period 2021-2025.

As a leading private bank with the mission of "Transforming the financial industry, enhancing the value of life," Techcombank has strengthened its commitment to green credit projects over the years. By 2023, the bank had disbursed VND 13.9 trillion in financing projects in sustainable transportation, green agriculture , renewable energy, and many other sectors. Aiming for net-zero by 2050, in December 2024, Techcombank partnered with Gaia to plant nearly 12,000 trees in the Phong Dien Nature Reserve (Thua Thien Hue province). This project not only helps restore headwater forests and protect biodiversity but also contributes to mitigating damage from natural disasters, balancing emissions, and responding to climate change. In parallel, Techcombank has organized numerous seminars and internal team-building programs, contributing to raising awareness among employees about their carbon footprint and encouraging actions to improve environmental protection. A notable example is the "Winter Giveaway" event, held in the North, Central, and South regions of Vietnam at the end of November 2024, attracting over 9,000 employees.

According to the World Bank, with CO₂ emissions reaching 344 million tons in 2022, Vietnam is among the top 20 countries with the highest emissions in the world. PwC's Netzero Economic Index report also shows that Asia- Pacific economies emit up to 48% of global emissions. This reflects the strong growth of the Vietnamese economy, while also posing a challenge in mitigating negative environmental impacts, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. Reforestation and promoting green lifestyles are two practical solutions to effectively and sustainably reduce the carbon footprint. Recently, Techcombank launched its Visa Eco payment card – a tool that helps users measure their carbon footprint through card transactions and proactively contribute to projects that help balance carbon emissions. This is considered a breakthrough in raising community awareness and creating opportunities for customers to participate in environmental protection projects. This initiative has made Techcombank the first bank in Vietnam to be honored in the Sustainable Product Design – Vietnam category of the prestigious ESGBusiness Awards 2024, which recognizes businesses that make significant contributions to building a sustainable future and demonstrate a strong commitment to ESG activities.

Representing Techcombank, Mr. Prasenjit Chakravarti - Director of Strategy & Transformation at Techcombank, shared: "At Techcombank, ESG is integrated into the bank's strategy and operations. Throughout the organization's ESG journey, environmental factors have always been a top priority for Techcombank. The bank has built an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) linked to business decisions and risk management in lending activities. Furthermore, the bank's digital transformation has improved productivity and contributed to minimizing environmental impact. Reforestation is an activity within the bank's organizational culture project series, contributing to the goal of net zero emissions and creating a foundation of long-term sustainable value for the community. At the same time, this meaningful activity also helps to motivate and engage Techcombank employees, contributing to building a sustainable and socially responsible corporate culture." (Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen) - The founder and director of the Gaia Nature Conservation Center stated: "Reducing the carbon footprint is key to achieving the Net Zero goal by 2025. This requires not only the efforts of businesses, but also the collective participation and awareness of every individual." We highly appreciate Techcombank's partnership in reforestation projects and raising community awareness in the journey of greening the economy, bringing practical impacts to the environment and society. In the coming time, Techcombank and Gaia will continue to promote the "Contribute a Tree, Contribute a Forest" program with the goal of restoring headwater forests throughout Vietnam in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve, Phong Dien Nature Reserve, Ta Kou Nature Reserve, Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve... Gaia will continue to care for and monitor these forests for 4 years to ensure a survival rate of 70-85%. Simultaneously, priority will be given to the conservation of wildlife and nature in Vietnam.
