Mr. Pham Duc Thuan's family in Duc Tien village has four members. Mr. Thuan himself has poor health, and his life was previously a struggle plagued by poverty. Through local government campaigns promoting economic development and utilizing preferential loan programs, at the end of 2024, he boldly invested in building pig pens and developing pig farming.

In 2025, his family sold over 4 tons of live pigs, earning more than 200 million VND. From that income, along with 60 million VND in government support and additional loans, by the end of 2025, a spacious new house was completed, and his family also escaped poverty in the commune.

Currently, my family is preparing to sell over 1 ton of pork. I plan to invest most of the proceeds after selling this batch to expand the pigpens and increase the scale of our farming operation. This will help us improve our income and ensure a stable life in the long term.

Not only the family of Mr. Pham Duc Thuan, but many other households in Thac Ba commune have risen out of poverty thanks to choosing suitable economic development directions.

A prime example is the family of Mr. Bui Van Hung in An Lac village. After receiving guidance and direction from the local government on developing forestry-based economic activities, he boldly invested in planting timber forests with two main tree species: acacia and eucalyptus.

Thanks to proper care and techniques, the family's forest area is thriving, yielding significant economic benefits. By the end of 2024, harvesting over 1 hectare of acacia trees brought the family nearly 150 million VND.

Mr. Hung shared: “My family is focusing on taking care of our 6-year-old acacia trees, which we expect to harvest at the end of the year. I hope this batch of acacia will continue to fetch a good price so that I can repay all the money I borrowed from the bank and have capital to reinvest in reforestation.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Party Secretary and Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of An Lac village, economic forest planting has helped many households escape poverty in recent years. Currently, the village has nearly 700 hectares of production forest, mainly acacia and eucalyptus trees. The establishment of four timber processing facilities in the village has also helped people feel secure in their production and reduce market risks.

The continuously rising price of raw timber has brought joy and tangible benefits to the people. As a result, by 2025, An Lac village will have 4 households lifted out of poverty. Out of 206 households in the village, only 2 remain in unavoidable poverty. The average income has reached nearly 60 million VND per person per year.

Besides crop cultivation, livestock farming is also a focus of development in the commune, with a total livestock population of over 48,200 animals and nearly 260,000 poultry, yielding 2,084 tons of live meat for sale. Aquaculture activities on Thac Ba Lake also contribute significantly to people's income, with 573 fish cages and a projected production of 3,874 tons in 2025.

The locality also focuses on developing OCOP products, with 13 products achieving standards of 3 stars or higher; supporting 7 cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector, creating a sustainable value chain for local agricultural products.

In 2025, Thac Ba commune achieved many positive results in poverty reduction, with 33 households escaping poverty, contributing to reducing the commune's poverty rate to 0.97% in 2025. Average income reached 65 million VND/person/year. In 2026, the locality strives to reduce the number of poor households by 23, corresponding to approximately 0.7%.

To achieve poverty reduction goals, Thac Ba commune will continue to plan and develop concentrated, specialized production areas linked to the advantages of each region; promote the application of science and technology, and improve the quality of agricultural and forestry products. Simultaneously, we will strengthen production linkages along the value chain, with businesses and cooperatives at the center connecting farmers with the market.

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Thac Ba Commune.

Thanks to the strong development of agriculture and forestry, the people of Thac Ba have been able to increase their income and improve their living standards. This is a solid foundation for the locality to strive towards achieving an average per capita income of 75 million VND/year by 2030, meeting the standards of an advanced new rural commune, and becoming the socio-economic development center of the eastern part of the province.
