The FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024 officially kicked off with four matches on the first day. One Southeast Asian representative that attracted attention was the Thai futsal team, also competing in this round against a strong opponent, Croatia.
Located in Group B, which also includes the Brazilian futsal team, the match between the two teams is considered crucial in determining who advances to the round of 16. Brazil is widely expected to secure a place in the next round from this group.
The Thai futsal team quickly took the lead with a goal from Muhammad. The two teams then exchanged attacks. While Croatia failed to find an equalizer, the "War Elephants" scored their second goal through Ronnachai.
Sekulic's consolation goal wasn't enough to give the Croatian futsal team a point in their opening match. Winning 2-1, the Thai futsal team has a significant advantage in securing a place in the round of 16. In the other Group B match, the Brazilian futsal team won 10-0 against the Cuban futsal team.
In Group A, the futsal match between Uzbekistan and the Netherlands was incredibly dramatic. The two teams engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth battle, ending in a 3-3 draw. In the other match, Paraguay won 5-2 against Costa Rica.
