Establish a Steering Committee for the merger of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces.

NDO - On the afternoon of April 9th, the working group of the Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee held a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee to discuss the cooperative relationship between the two provinces from the beginning of the 2020-2025 term to the present, and to discuss plans for the arrangement and merger of provincial-level administrative units as directed by the Central Government.

The delegation from Lao Cai province was led by Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Receiving and working with the delegation were Comrade Tran Huy Tuan, Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee; members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Executive Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, and relevant departments and agencies.

At the meeting, Comrade Tran Huy Tuan, Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee, highly appreciated the effective cooperation between the two provinces in the past period. Based on the cooperation contents agreed upon between the Standing Committees of the Lao Cai and Yen Bai Provincial Party Committees at the beginning of 2023, the departments, agencies, and localities of the two provinces have focused on and seriously and effectively implemented coordination and exchange of experiences in various fields, contributing to building a friendly, trustworthy cooperative relationship and mutual learning.

Regarding the policy of merging the two provinces as per the conclusions of the Politburo and the Secretariat, Comrade Tran Huy Tuan affirmed that both provinces share a common viewpoint that the merger of the two localities is a very correct policy and an important preparatory step of the Central Party Committee in the context of the country entering a new era of national development.

During the working session, both sides reviewed the results of cooperation and discussed the draft plan for the reorganization of provincial-level administrative units. Important decisions were made to establish an inter-provincial steering committee. The benefits of reorganizing administrative units were analyzed, including maximizing potential and advantages, expanding development space, optimizing resources, and enhancing competitiveness.

The delegates at the conference approved the draft Joint Resolution on the establishment of the Steering Committee and the Working Group assisting the Steering Committee in implementing the merger of Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces; and the draft outline of the Project on rearranging provincial-level administrative units.
