On the morning of April 24th, with 478 out of 487 participating delegates voting in favor (equivalent to 95.60% of the total number of National Assembly delegates), the National Assembly passed a Resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City.
The National Assembly resolved to establish Dong Nai City based on the entire natural area and population of Dong Nai Province. Dong Nai City borders Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong Province, Tay Ninh Province, and the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The Resolution states that the Government, the People's Council, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province (the People's Council and People's Committee of Dong Nai city from the date this Resolution takes effect) and relevant agencies and organizations are responsible for organizing the implementation of this Resolution; arranging and consolidating the organizational structure of local agencies and organizations according to regulations; stabilizing the lives of the local people, and ensuring the requirements for socio-economic development, national defense and security in the area.
Agencies, organizations, and units whose names are associated with the geographical names of Dong Nai province will be renamed and operate under the name of Dong Nai city from the date the Resolution takes effect.
Documents and papers issued by competent authorities before this Resolution takes effect, which have not yet expired or reached their expiration date, shall continue to be applied and used in accordance with the law until their expiration date or until they are amended, supplemented, replaced, repealed, canceled, or withdrawn by the competent authority.
From the date this Resolution takes effect, in addition to the regulations and policies applicable to centrally-governed cities, the specific mechanisms, regulations, and policies for Dong Nai province will continue to be implemented in Dong Nai city until the end of the application period or until a decision is made by the competent authority.
The resolution takes effect from April 30, 2026.
