As the capital of Western Australia, Perth has long been considered the “loneliest” city in the world because it is 3,600km from Sydney and more than 2,600km from its nearest neighbor, Adelaide. Perth is located west of the Ocean continent and has a temperate climate, with the most sunny days of the year compared to other cities in Australia.
The city is full of life
Most visitors to Australia will choose to approach a series of large cities located in the southeast of the continent such as Sydney or Melbourne. Wanting to explore Australia further west, I chose Perth to experience.
Like most other cities, Perth also has a romantic river flowing through it. The Swan River originates from deep inland, winding across and embracing Perth before flowing into the ocean. The river also contributes to the charm of the coastal city and gives Perth a climate similar to the Mediterranean climate, with clear sunshine all year round. Both banks of the Swan River running through the city are well preserved and renovated with green parks along both banks, and bicycle and pedestrian paths are designed alternately, creating a peaceful and dynamic feeling. Perth is always rated as one of the most livable cities in the world, partly thanks to its well-protected environment and the harmony between human life and nature.
Coming to Perth, you will feel the youthful vitality, for a very simple reason, this is a typical immigrant city in the southern hemisphere, attracting tens of thousands of people from all continents to settle down, with all ethnicities and cultures. Therefore, the city is always young, creative and crowded. Completely different from what I had imagined when I thought the city in the far west of Australia would be much quieter...
Slow living in the midst of beautiful nature
On peaceful days in Perth, I often cycle or stroll around Kings Park and the adjacent Botanic Gardens. Covering a large area, the park faces the Swan River with countless ancient trees surrounding it, and with more than 3,000 species of plants preserved in the Botanic Gardens, this place is a paradise for those who love plants, especially those who travel from a city near the equatorial scorching summer sun like me.
If you get tired of walking or cycling, you can take part in many interesting activities on the Swan River such as kayaking or surfing on the river. Or further away is the famous Hillarys Pier, which is not only a marina, but also a place where visitors can find many activities related to the ocean such as: glass-bottom boat trips, whale watching, jet skiing or sightseeing by helicopter and more challenging activities such as diving with sharks.
Perth has a very peaceful pace of life with very friendly and sincere local residents. They have many things to be proud of about the land they live in. Many people still call Perth “the city of light” to commemorate the event when astronaut John Glenn orbited the earth for the first time, on the Friendship 7 spacecraft in 1962. At that time, all the people of Perth lit up every house and every street in the city. They hoped that the astronaut could see Perth when flying over. A lovely spiritual beauty of the residents of Perth.
Most travel enthusiasts always find many memorable things when coming to a new land. I love Perth because of the gentleness of this city. Perth does not have a distinct four-season climate like Sydney or Melbourne, but the peaceful sunny days in Perth seem to last forever. Not too hot, not too cold, in Perth, everything is in harmony like people and plants, like the peaceful river flowing through the heart of the city.
