A city brimming with life.
Most tourists visiting Australia choose to explore a cluster of major cities in the southeast of the continent, such as Sydney or Melbourne. Wanting to discover Australia further west, I chose Perth for my experience.
Like most cities, Perth boasts a romantic river flowing through it. The Swan River originates inland, meandering through and embracing Perth before emptying into the sea. The river contributes to the city's charm as a coastal metropolis and gives Perth a climate relatively similar to the Mediterranean, with year-round sunshine. The banks of the Swan River, as it flows through the city, are well-maintained and improved, featuring green parks along both sides, and a mix of bicycle and pedestrian paths, creating a peaceful yet vibrant atmosphere. Perth is consistently ranked as one of the world's most livable cities, partly due to its well-protected environment and the harmonious blend of human life and nature.

The Swan River flows peacefully through the city of Perth.
Upon arriving in Perth, you'll feel a vibrant youthful energy, for a very simple reason: it's a typical immigrant city in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting tens of thousands of people from every continent to settle there, representing diverse ethnicities and cultures. Therefore, the city is always young, creative, and bustling. This is completely different from my initial expectations that a city in the far west of Australia would be much quieter…
Live at a slower pace amidst beautiful nature.
On peaceful days in Perth, I often cycle or stroll around Kings Park and the adjacent botanical gardens. Spanning a vast area and overlooking the Swan River, the park is surrounded by countless ancient trees and boasts over 3,000 plant species in its botanical gardens. It's a paradise for nature lovers, especially travelers from sun-drenched equatorial cities like myself.
If you're tired of walking or cycling, you can participate in many fun activities on the Swan River such as kayaking or paddleboarding. Or further out, you can visit the famous Hillarys Pier, which is not just a marina; visitors can also find many ocean-related activities such as glass-bottom boat tours, whale watching, jet skiing, helicopter tours, and more challenging activities like shark diving.
Perth has an extremely peaceful pace of life with friendly and sincere locals. They have much to be proud of in the land they live in. Many still call Perth the "City of Lights" to commemorate the first orbital flight of astronaut John Glenn on the Friendship 7 spacecraft in 1962. At that time, all the people of Perth lit up every house and every street in the city, hoping the astronaut could see Perth as he flew over. A lovely spirit of the people of Perth.

Tall buildings stand close together in the Perth city center.
Most travel enthusiasts always find many memorable things when they visit a new place. I fell in love with Perth precisely because of its peaceful atmosphere. Perth doesn't have the distinct four seasons of Sydney or Melbourne, but the beautiful, sunny days in Perth seem to last forever. Not too hot, not too cold, in Perth, everything is in harmony, like the people and the plants, like the gentle river flowing through the heart of the city.
