Returning to visit the family of Mr. Chiu Van Rin in Hoanh Mo commune, it's easy to see the changes in the once barren hillside garden. Rows of green-skinned pomelos, thin-skinned tangerines, jackfruit, vegetables, and short-term crops have now covered the garden, providing a source of income for the family.
Previously, Mr. Rin's family was classified as a poor household. In 2021, with support from the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Post in providing seedlings, fertilizers, and technical guidance, he boldly renovated his neglected garden, creating a "Model Orchard." After nearly five years, the garden has thrived, providing his family with additional income and gradually stabilizing their lives. Mr. Rin emotionally shared: "Without the help of the Border Guard, I don't know when my family would have escaped poverty."

The story of Mr. Rin's family is one of many examples demonstrating the effectiveness of the border guard's programs in Quang Ninh province. Over the past 10 years, the unit has built and maintained 23 models and programs to support people's economic , cultural, and social development. A common feature of these models is that they all stem from the real needs of the people. A prominent example is the "Cattle Breeding Program to Help the Poor in Border Areas." To date, the Border Guard has provided 534 breeding cows to 534 disadvantaged households, with a total value of over 8 billion VND. Along with providing the livestock, border guard officers also guide people on care techniques, disease prevention, and monitoring the breeding process. As a result, many households have additional production resources and are gradually improving their lives.
Besides livestock farming, the "Model Orchard" program has also been implemented in 6 border areas, covering a total area of over 30,000 m². Border Guard officers and soldiers have worked with local people to renovate neglected orchards, selecting suitable trees such as jackfruit, guava, oranges, custard apple, green pomelo, golden camellia, and other trees to plant in the forest gardens; they have also guided the application of cultivation techniques, gradually improving production efficiency. To date, 3 "Model Orchard" projects have been awarded commendations by the Provincial People's Committee in the "Skilled People's Mobilization" emulation movement.
In addition to supporting livelihoods, the Border Guard Force also regularly implements social welfare activities. From 2015 to the present, the Border Guard Force has spearheaded the mobilization of funds to help people build and repair 201 public works and houses, with a total value of over 10 billion VND; coordinated the construction of 402 sanitary toilets, and relocated 125 livestock pens away from residential areas… These concrete actions contribute to improving the living environment and gradually changing the living habits of people in border areas.

In addition, the Border Guard Force donated over 5,000 gifts; organized free medical examinations and dispensed free medicine to over 4,200 people. Notably, the "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by Border Guard Posts" program has regularly sponsored 159 students in border areas, providing monthly support of 500,000 VND per student. The total funding for the program to date has exceeded 6 billion VND. Among the students supported, 8 have successfully passed entrance exams to universities, colleges, vocational schools, and technical schools.
Most valuable is that border guards not only provide material aid but also directly visit each household, understand their circumstances, and work with them to overcome difficulties in production and daily life. This approach of being close to the people has helped many households change their way of thinking and doing things, boldly adopting new production methods and reducing the mentality of waiting and relying on support.
As life gradually stabilized, people became more attached to the border areas. In many remote villages, people actively participated in patrolling and self-managing the border and boundary markers; and promptly provided information to the authorities. Many village elders, village heads, and influential people became bridges between the Border Guard and the people, contributing to resolving incidents at the grassroots level.
Through practical initiatives, the bond between the military and the people in border areas is becoming increasingly strong. Every breeding cow, every improved garden, every house built, or every student supported in their education contributes to making the border region more prosperous and stable.
