On July 9th, in an interview with VTC News, teacher NMT (Biology teacher at Gia Dinh High School, Binh Thanh District) said that he is currently feeling a lot of pressure.
"When the incident occurred, I tried to explain it to the MC and her mother, but things have gone too far. Whether right or wrong, I would like to apologize to both families, especially the MC and QU. I hope both families will remain calm and avoid escalating the situation, which could negatively impact the students' mental well-being, and especially Gia Dinh High School. Currently, I am waiting for the MC and her family to return to the country so we can meet and discuss the matter in more detail ," Mr. T. said.
The article by the MC has sections circled in red that the MC's family believes were "stolen".
Teacher T. said that he was directly involved in accompanying students during the 2023 Genius Olympiad competition, which took place in the US last June.
Accordingly, MC students participated in the qualifying rounds for the Music and Creative Writing categories. QU participated in the creative writing training with MC and with the guidance of teacher T, but initially did not participate in the qualifying rounds.
In the qualifying round, MC passed both the music project and the writing project. However, when checking the results, due to a login issue, Teacher T only saw information that MC passed the music project, so he immediately informed MC's family.
Upon reviewing the results, Professor T discovered that the MC's written project had also been overlooked. However, according to Genius Olympiad regulations, contestants are only allowed to submit one project in the final round.
"It was my mistake to overlook the fact that MC also passed the qualifying round for the creative writing category. But MC's strength is music, so when I discovered this, I raised the issue with MC and the organizers to replace MC's entry with QU's, which was also on the same topic. Both MC and the organizers agreed. That's why MC and QU have the same entry number, 2190," Mr. T shared.
Teacher T. added that both creative essays by MC and QU shared the title " Saigon - Facing the loss of myself," addressing the issue of Ho Chi Minh City gradually losing its urban green spaces. Because both MC and QU were mentored by Teacher T., the topic and title of their essays were suggested by him. However, the content of their essays was completely different.
Previously, as VTC News reported, regarding this incident, Ms. TV - QU's mother, stated that after the competition ended, her daughter posted the picture on her personal Facebook page, but the MC's family pressured her to remove it.
Asserting that the information online is one-sided and seriously affects her child's health and mental well-being, Ms. TV stated that she has documented all related posts, messages, comments, etc., to protect her child's reputation.
Furthermore, Ms. H.D - the MC's mother - stated: " At this point, with the situation becoming so serious, I feel very sorry for MC and QU. However, if QU's family has indeed drawn up a legal document and wants to file a lawsuit, our family is ready to follow suit."
Speaking to VTC News, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh Van, Principal of Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), confirmed that she was aware of the incident right after the competition ended on June 17th.
Currently, Mr. T.'s health is not good. The school will soon request permission from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to hold a press conference to provide official information on this matter.
" The fact that Mr. T accompanied and guided the students to the competition was a personal matter. The school reported to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training about the teacher's request for permission to travel abroad and clearly stated that it was for personal reasons and not representing the school in any competition. The school only acted as a liaison between parents, students, and Mr. T ," Ms. Van emphasized.
