Five more sand mines to serve the Can Tho expressway.

On August 12th, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh Long province announced that the Provincial People's Committee has identified five additional river sand mines to supply sand for the North-South Expressway (Eastern section) in the 2021-2025 period, specifically the Can Tho - Ca Mau section (Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway), and the Ring Road 3 project (Ho Chi Minh City).

The sand mine in Vinh Long province allocated for the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project is currently being exploited.

These mines include: Vam Vung Liem 1A, with reserves of approximately 0.3 million m3; Vam Vung Liem 2, with reserves of approximately 0.6 million m3; Vam Vung Liem 3, with reserves of approximately 1.1 million m3; Phu Thanh 2, with reserves of approximately 0.2 million m3; and Tan Binh 1 mine, with reserves of approximately 0.8 million m3.

Previously, Vinh Long province had also surveyed the reserves of 9 sand mines, which are expected to be allocated to serve the two aforementioned projects with a total reserve of approximately 4.5 million cubic meters of sand. These are the Quoi An - Quoi Thien 2; Tan Binh 2; Phu Thanh - Ngai Tu; Binh Hoa Phuoc; Thanh Duc 2; Chanh An; Phu Thanh 1 - Dong Phu; Phu Thanh 2 and Luc Sy Thanh mines.

"The Vam Vung Liem 1A, 2, 3 sand mines, Phu Thanh 2 mine, and Tan Binh 2 mine have just had their reserve inventory results recognized by the People's Committee of Vinh Long province."

Regarding the nine previously mentioned sand mines, the Department is currently coordinating with the investor and contractor to complete the handover procedures under a special mechanism," a representative from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment added.

In February 2024, Vinh Long province also handed over three sand mines with a total reserve of approximately 2.4 million cubic meters to contractors constructing the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway. Currently, the contractors are focusing on exploiting these mines.

Thus, to date, Vinh Long has provided and plans to provide support for 17 sand mines for two key transportation projects as directed by the Government.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project commenced on January 1, 2023, with a length of over 110km and a total investment of over 27,500 billion VND.

The project is divided into two sub-projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang sub-project, with a length of over 37km; and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau sub-project, with a length of over 73km. It is expected to be completed in 2025.

The Ring Road 3 construction project, specifically the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City, has a total length of over 47km for component project 1. The total investment is over 22,411 billion VND. The project officially commenced with the commencement of various contract packages in July 2023. The expressway section is expected to be largely completed in 2025, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2026.
