Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just signed decisions approving the investment policy and investors for two 500 kV power transmission line projects: Quang Trach - Quynh Luu and Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa .

These are two component projects of the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line project from Quang Trach to Pho Noi. Accordingly, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has been assigned to invest in these two projects.

The 500kV Quang Trach to Pho Noi transmission project plays a particularly important role in supplying electricity to the North.

Specifically, the 500kV Quang Trach - Quynh Luu transmission line project has a length of approximately 225.5km, with its starting point at the 500kV Quang Trach Power Center substation (Quang Binh province) and its end point at location D1, approximately 300m from the 500kV Quynh Luu substation (Nghe An province). The project passes through the provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, and Nghe An; with a total investment of approximately 10,110 billion VND.

The Quỳnh Lưu - Thanh Hóa 500kV transmission line project is approximately 91.8km long, with its starting point at D2, about 300m from the Quỳnh Lưu 500kV substation (Nghệ An province), and its end point at the Thanh Hóa 500kV substation. The project passes through two provinces, Nghệ An and Thanh Hóa, with a total investment of approximately VND 4,116.027 billion.

The projects are scheduled for implementation from 2023-2025, with the goal of completion by June 2024.

Both projects aim to enhance the transmission capacity of existing 500kV lines to ensure power supply to the North, especially given the trend of high transmission capacity in the Central-North direction due to the high load growth rate in the Northern region.

Simultaneously, it reduces the load on existing 500kV lines (ensuring the N-1 criterion), especially when hydropower plants in the North are operating at low capacity; it enhances the stability reserve on the North-Central interface, combined with the remaining component of the 500kV circuit 3 line project from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, contributing to creating a strong connection from the power source centers of the North Central region to the load centers of the Northern region.

This is a crucial foundation for the safe, reliable, stable, and optimal operation of the power system, contributing to reduced operating costs; transmitting power from thermal power plants in the North Central region as well as renewable energy plants in the North Central region into the national power grid, and supplying electricity to load centers in the Northern region.

The 500kV circuit 3 transmission line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi (Hung Yen), comprising the four sub-projects mentioned above, is a particularly urgent project to alleviate electricity shortages in the North. The Government has mandated its completion before June 30, 2024.

The four component projects are: the Quang Trach - Quynh Luu section, 225km long, with a total investment of VND 10,110 billion; the Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa section, 92km long, with a total investment of VND 4,116 billion; the Thanh Hoa - Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant section, 74km long, with a total investment of VND 3,086 billion; and the Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant - Pho Noi section, 124km long, with a total investment of VND 5,539 billion.

Prime Minister approves investment plan for 500kV power line to 'rescue' the North. The Prime Minister has just decided to approve the investment plan and accept the investor for the 500kV power line project connecting Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant to Thanh Hoa, aiming to supplement the power supply for the North.
