On the day he left for military service, Tuan packed only a few personal belongings, entrusting the rest of his hopes and responsibilities to the gaze of his wife and children. The distance of over 200km from his hometown to the 789 Logistics and Technical Depot, Logistics and Technical Department, 34th Army Corps, wasn't too far on the map, but for young people who married early and shouldered the burden of providing for their families, that distance sometimes felt as long as the longing itself.

In his early days in the army, Tuan maintained the habits of a farmer: waking up earlier than his comrades and proactively pitching in to help with whatever work was needed. Being away from his family, Tuan truly felt the emptiness of a man leaving his beloved home for the first time. There were nights on guard duty amidst the cold mist, listening to his comrades recount stories of their hometowns, and Tuan would fall silent, consumed by a deep longing… Soldiers are always strong in the face of hardship, but they are most vulnerable to the longing for family, something everyone experiences, yet not everyone can express.

A Tinh Tuan with his wife and child.

What Tuan remembers most are the times his wife and children traveled hundreds of kilometers to visit him at his unit. For the entire week before, he was restless, wishing time would pass faster. When they saw the familiar figure entering the unit's gate, his little one would rush to hug him tightly, while his wife stood behind, smiling and tearing up with love and longing... At that moment, Tuan couldn't say anything, he just gently placed his hand on his wife's shoulder and hugged his child. This simple moment was enough to make the young soldier deeply understand the meaning of the word "family"—the place that gave him the strength to stand firm and grow in the strict yet loving environment of the military.

During those visits from his wife and children, Lieutenant Colonel Phan Quang Vinh, Head of Political Affairs at Logistics and Technical Depot 789, also spoke with Tuan's family. He told Tuan's wife, "Don't worry, the unit always cares and provides the best conditions for Tuan to focus on training and successfully complete his duties. Take good care of your family and children, because a strong support system is essential for a soldier's peace of mind and steady progress." These simple yet warm words of encouragement moved Tuan's wife, and strengthened Tuan's resolve, making him feel even more deeply the unit's affection and responsibility towards him.

Throughout his time in the military, Tuan received a great deal of care and attention from his commanders and comrades. Understanding Tuan's difficult family circumstances, with a wife and young child, the unit always created favorable conditions, offered support and encouragement when he felt homesick, shared his sorrows, and was always ready to assist so that his family could rest assured. Tuan knew that behind every effort he made was the image of his hardworking wife, the loving embrace of his child, and the silent support of his unit.

His comrades describe Tuan as honest, diligent, and always proactive in all his work. He doesn't do things for praise, but because deep down, he always thinks: "I must strive to make my wife and children proud to have a husband and father wearing a soldier's uniform." That is his enduring motivation, stemming from the simple yet sacred love of a mature man.

Now, having almost completed his military service, Tuan understands that those months of training were not just about duty and discipline, but also a journey that helped him mature and become more capable. His unit provided him with support, his comrades gave him camaraderie, and his family gave him a reason to strive every day.
