Competition for economic development

Excellent production and business

Bearing in mind President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "Competition is patriotism, and patriotism requires competition," in recent times, associations and organizations at all levels in the province have actively implemented emulation movements for excellent production and business. For farmers' associations, this includes the movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty"; for women's associations, the movement "Women actively studying, working creatively, and building happy families"; for youth unions, the movement "Accompanying young people in starting and establishing businesses"; and for veterans' associations, the movement "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities ." This has created a widespread and vibrant atmosphere of competition, arousing patriotism and national pride, creating momentum and strength for all strata of the population to enthusiastically participate in labor and production, contributing to accelerating the process of economic restructuring towards industrialization and modernization.

Attending the Conference to commend and honor outstanding individuals in the ethnic minority and mountainous regions of the province, Nguyen Quyet Thang, representing the Tan Son delegation, was a representative of the leading young people in local economic development. Born and raised in Xuan Dai commune, Thang graduated from university and spent many years working in various jobs, but ultimately decided to return to his hometown to start his own business.

Initially, Thang opened a shop specializing in animal feed and veterinary medicine. However, feeling that simply providing services wouldn't fully utilize his knowledge of animal husbandry and agriculture , Thang considered which livestock and crops would be suitable for the local conditions and yield economic benefits. Instead of traditional livestock like buffalo, cows, pigs, and chickens, Thang decided to take a risk with a new breed: frogs, combined with fish farming. Through trial and error, Thang has now developed a frog population of 15,000 and two fish harvests per year. Furthermore, he has expanded his production to include products made from readily available raw materials such as pickled bamboo shoots and pickled cassava leaves.

Currently, youth union branches at all levels continue to maintain activities supporting youth economic development through initiatives such as: supporting youth entrepreneurship and business development during the 2023-2027 period; training and transferring advanced scientific and technical knowledge to young people; maintaining and developing cooperative models, cooperatives, and "Youth Economic Development" clubs; and connecting and supporting access to loan capital for youth entrepreneurship and business development. Youth union branches at all levels also effectively utilize funds from the National Employment Fund and the Social Policy Bank, promptly inspecting and reviewing the use of funds, recovering capital, and resolving any obstacles in implementation and utilization.

Having dedicated their youth and energy to the independence and peace of the nation, these former soldiers, upon returning to their homeland, once again lead the way and set an example on the front lines against poverty. Standing firm on the economic front, the marching songs of these veterans still resound, a testament to the resilience of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," who overcome any difficulty and defeat any enemy.

Competition for economic development

The economic development model of war veteran Bui Ngoc Cuong in Tram Than commune, Phu Ninh district, has yielded high economic efficiency.

Comrade Tran Anh Du, Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association, said: “The Veterans Associations at all levels in the province encourage cadres and members to uphold the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, promoting the movement "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities" in conjunction with the movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one left behind".”

The Association focuses on implementing breakthrough initiatives: fulfilling the annual targets for registering and assisting members to escape poverty; eliminating temporary housing for members; investing in loans to build exemplary household economic models for members, with the main focus being: "Each branch with poor members will help one member household escape poverty each year"; "Each district must focus on building one sustainable production and business model for family farms, large farms, cooperatives, joint ventures, and partnerships linked to environmental protection each year." Currently, the Association has 253 businesses owned by war veterans; 62 cooperatives owned by members; 1 Provincial Association of War Veteran Entrepreneurs; 226 farms, 2,359 family farms, and thousands of member households engaged in small-scale business, services, and production.

Businesses have effectively exploited the potential and strengths of the locality; creating regular jobs for over 45,100 workers; contributing tens of billions of VND annually to the state budget and campaigns launched by the Association and the locality; and having over 8,000 members recognized as excellent producers and businesspeople at various levels, including 280 members at the provincial and central levels.

Private sector economic development

In implementing its annual socio-economic development tasks, the province has adopted numerous policies and solutions to encourage and facilitate the development of the private sector in all fields. Administrative reform, organizational restructuring, and state management of the private sector have seen significant progress. As a result, the number of registered businesses and individual business households has increased rapidly in both quantity and scale, with diverse business forms. Generally, registered business sectors have changed and developed, with many new industries across various aspects of social life; notably, traditional crafts, procurement services, and services supporting production and the lives of people in rural and mountainous areas have been revived. In industry, sectors and products with high potential have seen growth in both quantity and quality, with initial effective exploitation and enhancement of product value, such as tea, mineral processing, and textiles.

The business community and entrepreneurs in the province have developed significantly in terms of quantity, quality, and scale. The province currently has over 11,000 businesses, including more than 8,000 private enterprises; nearly 700 cooperatives and over 65,000 business households; the structure of business sectors has undergone positive changes; management capacity, operational efficiency, and competitiveness have improved; and they are increasingly asserting their role as the main force in managing and organizing production resources, creating goods and services for society, and contributing positively to the overall development of the province.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association, stated: “The Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association currently has over 180 active members. Members of the Association are involved in production and business activities across diverse sectors such as banking, construction, interior design, supermarkets, and logistics. During the fourth term (from 2018 to the present), businesses within the Association have contributed over 10,000 billion VND to the state budget and created jobs for more than 50,000 workers with an average income of 7.5 million VND per month.”

Private enterprises also contribute nearly 70% of the province's budget revenue, affirming their particularly important role in local socio-economic development. To achieve this result, the province has built a dynamic business environment to attract small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through various preferential policies and effective support mechanisms. Focus has been placed on facilitating access to credit through credit guarantees, striving to overcome cumbersome procedures, assisting with loan application processes, and connecting businesses. The public administrative service center has been put into operation to serve citizens and businesses, and business registration has been promoted through support for converting household businesses into enterprises. Free accounting software and free training in business management, accounting, and taxation are also provided.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy Director of Thanh Cong Construction and Investment Co., Ltd., shared: “In recent years, in addition to attracting investment, Phu Tho province has also focused on investing in infrastructure, transportation, and electricity to connect businesses, participate in industry linkages and value chains. The province pays attention to directing and strengthening the development of business associations, creating policies to support businesses in overcoming difficulties. Through this, businesses have an environment to develop and quickly resolve difficulties.”
