Anemia treatment

According to information from the Ministry of Health on June 5th, the Ministry has just received a report from the Bac Lieu Provincial Department of Health regarding the announcement by the Can Tho City Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital that it is temporarily suspending the supply of blood and blood products to the Bac Lieu Provincial General Hospital, only providing limited quantities for emergency patients (due to difficulties in bidding and purchasing supplies and biological products for blood screening tests).

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management - Ministry of Health has worked with relevant units and sent document No. 706/KCB-QLCL&CĐT requesting the Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the Director of the Department of Health of Can Tho City to coordinate in ensuring the supply of blood and blood products for emergency and treatment purposes for patients.

In case of anemia, the Ministry of Health issues an urgent directive (Figure 1). — Anemia in treatment in some provinces of the Mekong Delta (illustrative image).

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management - Ministry of Health assigns the Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the National Blood Center as the focal point for coordinating with blood transfusion centers (Cho Ray Hospital, Hue Central Hospital; Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital and other blood transfusion centers) to ensure the supply of blood and blood products to support hospitals within the blood supply area of Can Tho City Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital to have sufficient blood for emergency and treatment of patients, absolutely preventing shortages that could affect patients' lives and the quality of medical examination and treatment.

At the same time, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requested the Can Tho Department of Health to urgently direct the Can Tho City Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital to immediately implement short-term and long-term solutions to ensure sufficient blood and blood products are supplied to hospitals within the assigned blood and blood product supply coverage area;

Strictly comply with Official Letter No. 1758/BYT-KCB dated March 30, 2023, from the Ministry of Health regarding the implementation of Resolution No. 30/NQ-CP dated March 4, 2023, on continuing to implement solutions to ensure the supply of medicines and medical equipment, and Government Decree No. 07/2023/NĐ-CP dated March 3, 2023, in order to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment; and be held responsible if blood shortages or product deficiencies affect patients.

The Bac Lieu Department of Health and the Departments of Health of provinces/cities in the Mekong Delta region that utilize blood and blood products should actively coordinate with the Can Tho City Department of Health and relevant units in supplying blood and blood products, and promptly report to the Provincial/City People's Committee Office to resolve any difficulties or obstacles (if any) in ensuring sufficient blood and blood product supply.
