On November 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health sent a document to medical facilities in the area, requesting to promote voluntary blood donation to ensure blood reserves for emergency and treatment needs.

According to an urgent report sent to the department by the Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, there is a serious shortage of blood for emergency and treatment purposes.

Accordingly, from October 1 to 26, the actual number of blood donations in Ho Chi Minh City was 3,843 units lower than the target from the beginning of 2025, a decrease of nearly 10-15% compared to the plan.

Meanwhile, the demand for blood at hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City after the merger will increase by 15-20% compared to the same period in 2024.

This situation puts great pressure on treatment, especially in the departments of resuscitation, surgery, obstetrics and patients needing emergency blood transfusion.

In order to ensure that the blood reserve is always ready to serve the emergency and treatment needs of the people, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requests that medical facilities in the area carry out appropriate blood transfusion orders, comply with the guidelines on promoting voluntary blood donation and using blood safely and effectively.

At the same time, units need to organize and mobilize civil servants, public employees and workers to actively participate in voluntary blood donation; coordinate with the Humanitarian Blood Donation Center and the Blood Transfusion - Hematology Hospital to organize blood donation and safe blood reception right at the facility.

In addition, the Department of Health also requested to promote communication activities, encourage medical staff and patients' relatives to participate in the voluntary blood donation movement, contributing to ensuring a stable blood source for medical examination and treatment in Ho Chi Minh City.
