Police officer donated blood and platelets 61 times

That is the "asset" that Major Nguyen Thanh Xuan, an officer of the Department of Environmental Crime Prevention and Control ( Ministry of Public Security ), always cherishes and is proud of.

Recalling the first time he donated blood, Mr. Xuan laughed: “At that time, I was very scared, but it wasn’t because I was enthusiastic, it was because… my wife encouraged me. At that time, my wife was pregnant, and when she saw that there was a blood donation campaign in the apartment complex, she registered, but she didn’t meet the conditions. So I went instead.”

Unexpectedly, from that time "going in place of his wife", the police officer began a long journey of blood and platelet donation, a journey of compassion and responsibility.

He gradually turned blood donation into a positive lifestyle habit. “The more I donate blood, the more moderate my lifestyle becomes: no alcohol, no staying up late. I give blood, but in return I receive health, joy and peace for those in need of blood,” he shared.

Major Nguyen Thanh Xuan is one of 180 delegates attending the program "Meeting outstanding platelet donors in 2025". The program has been organized annually by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion since 2020.

Not only donating blood, Mr. Xuan is also an active member of the PUN (Rapid Response) group - a volunteer group of more than 100 members that transports poor patients for free. Many of his teammates have joined the "zero-dong" car team, donating blood and platelets, creating a beautiful image of a police officer in everyday life.

Among those comrades was Pham Hong Hai, who performed 117 noble acts and donated platelets 17 times in 2025 alone. He represented 180 outstanding faces attending the program, respectfully presenting his achievements to beloved Uncle Ho.

Also at the event, Nguyen Duc Anh, a young man from Bac Ninh , moved people when sharing his journey.

As soon as he was old enough, Duc Anh registered to become a volunteer for the Bac Giang Vietnamese - Korean Blood Club and donated blood for the first time. With his enthusiasm and volunteer heart, he actively participated in promoting and spreading the message of "donating blood to save lives" to the community.

Up to now, Duc Anh has donated blood and platelets 77 times, in 2025 alone he donated platelets 16 times.

41,000 platelet units from "sunny hearts"

The 180 selected exemplary delegates all had admirable achievements in blood and platelet donation, with a total of nearly 11,900 blood and platelet donations, with each person donating an average of 66 times.

In 2025 alone, these 180 role models contributed nearly 3,000 units of platelets, an average of 16 donations per person.

Many people have donated up to 70, 80, 90 times; especially, there are 15 individuals who have donated platelets more than 100 times such as: Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (143 times), Mr. Hoang Kim Duc (137 times), two sisters Huynh Hai Binh (121 times) and Huynh Thi My An (115 times), Ms. Trinh Thi Hong Thu (125 times)...

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, shared: “The participants of the program have donated platelets at least 12 times a year, many have donated up to 17 or 18 times a year. These are “talking” numbers, making many people admire their perseverance, enthusiasm and kindness from their “sunny hearts” for the sick.”

In the first 10 months of the year, the Institute received nearly 41,000 platelet units from 11,200 donors (the figure for the same period last year was nearly 30,000 units from 8,400 donors).

According to Associate Professor Thanh, it is encouraging that the number of people donating platelets and the average frequency of donation per person per year is increasing.

It is expected that in 2025, the Institute will receive about 50,000 platelet units - the highest result of the Institute to date.
