The era of "branded" music.

The live show "Like a Drifting Wind," celebrating 25 years of songwriting by composer Duc Tri, took place on October 1st in Hanoi, and the live show "Alone in the Vast Expanse," marking 30 years of musical activity by composer Do Bao, scheduled for November 11th in Ho Chi Minh City and November 25th in Hanoi, are two of the live shows that attracted a large audience.

Brand identity

It's not difficult to predict the musical style of the upcoming live shows, as each artist's individual mark has become a recognizable brand for music lovers. Composer Do Bao marks his 30th anniversary with the live concert "Do Bao & Friends - Alone in the Vast World" in Ho Chi Minh City (November 11th) and Hanoi (November 25th), featuring guest artists including Thanh Lam, Ha Tran, Tan Minh, Ngoc Anh, Tung Duong, Ho Quynh Huong, Uyen Linh, Trung Quan, Hoang Dung, Lan Nha, and Gigi Huong Giang.

Composer Do Bao shared: "Each person's life is a unique journey, and no matter where that journey begins, love and our human identity always exist amidst the vast beauty of life and human emotions." Linh Nguyen, the director of Do Bao's concert, said: "The program will not only be a gathering place for those who love Do Bao's music, but also a symbolic space where each audience member will retain the most beautiful emotions on their journey into the inner world amidst the vast realm of memories."

The live show "Like a Drifting Wind" by musician Duc Tri marks a new chapter with a change in his unique style. "Like a Drifting Wind" features two veteran singers, Phuong Thanh and My Tam, along with popular new faces: Lan Nha, Nguyen Ha, Trung Quan…

Meanwhile, Trung Quân's first solo live show celebrating 15 years of singing is scheduled to welcome over 10,000 spectators at the Military Zone 7 Gymnasium (Ho Chi Minh City) on October 28th and in Hanoi on November 10th. Hoàng Thùy Linh's "Vietnamese" live show, showcasing the rich national identity, is expected to take place on the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 29th) at the Phú Thọ Gymnasium (Ho Chi Minh City).

While Trung Quân's live show guarantees quality with music composed by musician Đức Trí and guest appearances by Hà Trần, Uyên Linh, Thùy Chi, and a secret vocalist, Hoàng Thùy Linh's live show sparks curiosity as her two albums, "HOÀNG" and "LINK," featuring numerous hits from over the years, will be recreated in a musical setting that celebrates national identity.

Worth the money

While singer Hoang Thuy Linh's "Vietnamese" is causing controversy due to her live singing ability, Trung Quan's (Trung Quan Idol) "Live concert 1589" is selling out. In the first 24 hours of its release, Trung Quan's "Live concert 1589" sold over 3,000 tickets. After 48 hours, this number had risen to over 6,000 tickets for both Ho Chi Minh City (2,000) and Hanoi (4,000). To date, Trung Quan's show is almost completely sold out.

Targeting a young audience, Trung Quân's live show has relatively affordable ticket prices, ranging from 800,000 VND to 3 million VND. In contrast, musician Đức Trí's "Like a Drifting Wind" live show has ticket prices from 1 million to 6.8 million VND. Musician Đỗ Bảo's live show is priced from 1.2 million to 6.2 million VND – while quite high, many viewers consider it "worth the money." The common thread among these live shows is that they are worth watching because of the signature voices of the participating singers. This shows that Vietnamese showbiz is returning to its necessary rhythm, prioritizing quality.

Ignoring the controversy surrounding Hoang Thuy Linh's statements or live singing ability, experts believe "Vietnamese" could be a noteworthy performance. Contemporary folk music is always a genre that can easily become boring for many audiences, especially young people, if not skillfully staged, and Hoang Thuy Linh has invested heavily in this area.

According to insiders, the days of "no matter how you put on a live show, it's a loss" or that audiences only like to watch for free, and ticket sales are guaranteed to be a failure... as artists used to lament. Today's audiences are willing to spend money on the best experiences. Artists will "kill" themselves if they fail to meet public demands. The Vietnamese music market is undergoing a very harsh selection process, so the dream of a golden age for Vietnamese music may not be far off anymore.
