After two months of implementing the electronic toll collection (ETC) model without entrance barriers, the five expressways have generated over 580 billion VND in revenue with nearly 6 million transactions.

During the peak traffic periods of Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and April 30th, traffic flow maintained a stable speed through the ETC toll collection system, with no congestion or gridlock. On April 30th alone, the ETC toll stations recorded over 186,000 transactions, generating revenue exceeding 14 billion VND, an increase of nearly 45% compared to the daily average. With meticulous infrastructure preparation and a dedicated technical workforce, the system successfully processed this massive volume of transactions accurately and quickly.

From the start of toll collection, March 2nd, 2026, to 10 PM on April 30th, 2026, the system has recorded positive revenue results. From March 2nd to March 31st, 2026, the ETC system recorded over 2.6 million transactions, generating revenue exceeding 262 billion VND. In April, the volume of traffic increased significantly compared to March, with revenue exceeding 317 billion VND and 3.3 million transactions.

There were over 6 million transactions in the two months since the implementation of the automated toll collection system.

The breakthrough of the non-stop toll collection system lies in its fully automated model, eliminating the need for barriers at highway entrances, thus maintaining a stable traffic flow and minimizing congestion. However, operating a multi-route toll collection system also presents significant technical challenges, requiring complex data interoperability between the systems of more than 20 toll stations and numerous different installation contractors.

The occurrence of some exceptional situations is unavoidable. However, the problems that exist are mostly localized, small-scale, and are always detected and rectified immediately by the monitoring system.

To ensure smooth system operation, starting April 23, 2026, the Vietnam Road Administration and the Northern Road Technology Center officially launched a campaign to thoroughly rectify errors in the ITS system on five expressways. Accordingly, contractors providing equipment and software solutions have assigned dedicated personnel to work directly at the toll collection control center to fine-tune the operational workflow. This campaign not only aims to definitively resolve technical errors but also to complete the inter-route ETC system by May 2026.
