According to the previous development planning and orientation, TKV mechanical engineering was designed, invested in equipment and production processes mainly to serve the repair of specialized equipment in open-pit mining, underground mining and coal processing. In the past 10 years, TKV has promoted the conversion from mechanical repair to mechanical manufacturing, gradually mastering the design and technology to manufacture equipment and spare parts to replace imported goods. TKV mechanical engineering production units have invested and equipped many new modern and synchronized technological equipment in precision machining stages and are gradually automating production stages. Some production stages have used robots to increase machining accuracy, increase productivity and improve working conditions.
In parallel with providing repair services to serve the main manufacturing industries, TKV Mechanical Engineering is currently promoting research and manufacturing of import replacement products to serve the mining, processing, and transportation of coal and minerals as well as the thermal power and alumina production sectors. Thanks to that, instead of having to import all equipment and machinery from abroad, TKV has now mastered the technology and successfully manufactured many products.
Notably, the EKG-10 excavator has a bucket capacity of up to 10m3; trucks with a load capacity of up to 35 tons; Com-bai AM-50Z combined mine excavator; explosion-proof hydraulic excavator in underground mines with a bucket capacity of 0.15-0.6m3; electric locomotives using explosion-proof batteries used in underground mines with a pulling force of up to 120kN. TKV's mechanical factories also localize and assemble specialized transport vehicles such as industrial explosive mixer trucks and explosive material transport vehicles. In particular, they have built new water vehicles, including dry cargo ships with a load capacity of up to 15,000 tons; designed and manufactured vehicles to transport people, equipment and materials in steep mines; manufactured self-propelled support frames, mobile frames in synchronous mechanized longwalls; types of support columns, hydraulic cylinders for underground coal mining with a diameter of up to 280mm; Distribution transformer stations up to 250MVA-220kV; electrical cabinets, transformers, explosion-proof starters up to 1,250kVA-10/0.4kV with high quality.
In the context of Vietnam's science and technology being in the stage of innovation and development with many opportunities ahead, especially after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW (dated December 22, 2024) on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, TKV determined that with its existing capabilities in the field of mechanical manufacturing, processing and manufacturing, this is an opportunity for TKV's mechanical engineering to innovate, accelerate development and participate more deeply in global supply chains, especially with foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) in Vietnam.
Accordingly, in the automobile assembly industry, TKV mechanical engineering now has a truck assembly line with a capacity of 1,500 vehicles/year. TKV mechanical engineering factories promote the manufacturing and localization of spare parts in the assembly process. In the first phase, TKV mechanical engineering has achieved a localization rate of about 16% and has built and implemented a roadmap to achieve a localization rate of up to 40% for the Kamaz truck line of the Russian Federation. In recent years, TKV mechanical engineering has participated in manufacturing and supplying some precision machined spare parts to other countries such as Japan and Norway. Thus, in this field, TKV is ready to participate in assembling, renovating, and localizing oversized and overweight vehicles used in the mining industry and transportation equipment used in the dual-use industry, as well as assembling commercial vehicles.
Regarding the manufacture of accessories and spare parts for the railway transport industry, over the past years, TKV has manufactured bogies (1,000mm gauge) and built new 35-ton freight cars with quality equal to imported products used in mineral transport. In the coming time, when railway projects are implemented, the railway industry will take the lead in receiving and transferring technologies for manufacturing wagons, manufacturing wheel axles, braking systems, bogies, etc. and cooperate with mechanical enterprises to manufacture a number of materials, spare parts, and equipment for urban railways and high-speed railways, achieving a localization rate of 30-40%. In this field, TKV is ready to participate in the manufacture and construction of new freight cars, power distribution stations, wagon bogie systems, etc. on national railways and participate in the manufacture and supply of materials and spare parts for railway infrastructure.
TKV's representative said: In order to quickly participate in global economic chains, including automobile and railway industry development programs, TKV hopes that the Government, ministries, branches and Quang Ninh province will have specific solutions and support mechanisms for investment capital for key mechanical fields, build domestic supply and linkage chains to promote the strengths of domestic manufacturing enterprises, reduce dependence on imported raw materials and components from abroad; specify regulations and instructions in the assembly, renovation and inspection of large-sized transport vehicles used in the mineral industry. At the same time, create conditions for TKV's key mechanical factories to stabilize their locations and production environment through land lease policies and ensure stable energy supply for production.
