A vivid picture
According to observations, every morning and evening, parks, cultural centers, sports fields, and recreational areas in residential neighborhoods throughout the ward are bustling with people participating in sports and physical activities. From teenagers playing football, badminton, and pickleball, to women participating in folk dances and volleyball, to elderly people practicing Tai Chi and walking, the atmosphere is vibrant and full of life. Many sports clubs have been established, such as: table tennis, badminton, chess, cycling, aerobics, folk dance, martial arts, pickleball, etc. The movement is not only thriving in residential areas but is also spreading strongly and operating systematically in schools, agencies, and organizations.
This vibrant picture shows that the sports and physical training movement in Dong Hoi ward has truly become an integral part of daily life and an essential need for a large number of people, contributing to improving their spiritual lives and building a healthy living environment.

According to Ms. Mai Thi Thien Ly, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Dong Hoi Ward, to encourage the development of sports and physical training, the ward pays special attention to investing in facilities for training. Currently, the entire ward has 8 cultural and sports centers, 6 football fields for 7-9 players, and more than 100 sports training points, of which about 80 training points are located within the premises of neighborhood cultural centers and cultural and sports centers. Many outdoor fields and training points are planned in a coordinated manner, creating favorable conditions for people to participate in health training.
Along with state investment, many residential areas have promoted the socialization of sports and physical education with contributions and financial support from many businesses, organizations, and individuals to build an increasingly complete system of sports and physical education facilities, meeting the needs of the people for recreation and training.
Thanks to investment and systematic organization, the number of people participating in regular physical exercise and sports is increasing. To date, the percentage of people regularly participating in physical exercise and sports in Dong Hoi ward has reached 65%, and the percentage of families involved in sports has reached 60%.
For public health
Speaking with us, Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Duyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Hoi Ward, said that to create motivation to attract a large number of people to participate in sports and physical training, making it a familiar cultural activity, the ward regularly organizes grassroots sports competitions during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). As evidence, the first Dong Hoi Ward Sports Festival (2025-2026) and the traditional cross-country race in 2026 attracted more than 2,000 athletes, coaches, and referees.
From the grassroots movement, the ward selected many outstanding athletes to participate in the 1st Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival in cycling, badminton, pickleball, and cross-country running. In addition, the campaign "All citizens practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh" continued to be widely implemented, linked with the movement "All citizens unite to build a cultured life." Activities such as the Olympic Run for Public Health and the Month of Sports Activities for Everyone were regularly maintained, creating motivation for people to actively improve their health.
Notably, in April 2026, Dong Hoi ward had 106 athletes participating in the first Provincial School Sports Competition for the 2025-2026 school year, and they excellently won first place overall in the ward/commune category. This result affirms the balanced development of the sports movement, especially physical education in schools.
With a foundation focused on improving public health and contributing to building a civilized, modern, culturally rich, and vibrant living environment, Dong Hoi continues to prioritize the socialization of investment in infrastructure, upgrading community playgrounds, and expanding sports clubs suitable for different target groups; promoting the sports movement to a higher level; striving to achieve, by 2030, a rate of over 70% of people regularly participating in sports and a rate of over 67.5% of families involved in sports.
