During the meeting, City Party Secretary Le Quang Tung provided an overview of the potential, advantages, and development orientation of Can Tho City in the new period; emphasizing that the city is currently a centrally-governed urban area, playing a central role in the Mekong Delta region. Following the administrative reorganization, the city's development space has expanded, creating more favorable conditions to attract investment, promote socio-economic development, and strengthen international cooperation. Can Tho City is prioritizing the development of industry, trade and services, logistics, energy, science and technology, and tourism; while continuing to expand industrial land, creating room to attract domestic and foreign investors.
Building on the foundation of the traditionally good friendship between Vietnam and Belarus, the City Party Secretary expressed his desire to strengthen connections, share experiences, and expand cooperation with Belarusian partners in areas where both sides have potential and strengths; thereby making the cooperative relationship increasingly deeper, more substantive, and more effective.
Mr. Alexander Sidoruk highly appreciated the development potential of Can Tho City and stated that Belarus always values its traditional friendship with Vietnam, wishing to expand cooperation with Vietnamese localities, including Can Tho City. Based on the potential and strengths of both sides, Belarus hopes to promote cooperation with the city in the fields of economics, trade, energy, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Currently, Belarus exports several items to Vietnam such as fertilizers, agricultural machinery, pharmaceuticals, and powdered milk; and is also promoting cooperation in the production and assembly of agricultural machinery in Vietnam.
Acknowledging the proposals of the Belarusian Consul General, City Party Secretary Le Quang Tung instructed relevant departments and agencies to research and advise on appropriate cooperation content; affirming that Can Tho City is ready to coordinate and promote cooperation with Belarus based on leveraging the potential and advantages of each side.
The parties also focused on discussing the possibility of researching and considering the early promotion of a Memorandum of Cooperation between Can Tho City and localities and partners in Belarus, as a basis for implementing specific, practical cooperation activities that are consistent with the needs and strengths of each side. This is considered an important step in creating a long-term cooperation framework, contributing to deepening and enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation between Can Tho City and Belarus.
